The Big Move – Day 2

20160416092847_1

A day has passed and the deed is slowly coming along. Moumix has been busy working on the top tier of the place, this is where we’ll have a castle and a small village enclosed. Mayameran has been helping out too making bricks and fountains and collecting camellia sprouts for hedges. I’m working on the dock area. My first task is to flatten the dock area, which is about 8 tiles wide by 50 tiles long. That’s a huge area. Normally this task is more annoying than difficult, but there’s a mountain in the way, so I’ll actually have to dig until I hit rock, clear the tiles of all sand, and then mine the rock down to make the area flat. After I can just put down sand or dirt again to flatten it all out.

So far I have a tiny little portion cleared, approximately 2×12. In order to surface mine it’s not just the tile you’re working on that has to be cleared of dirt, but also the tiles touching it. So instead of a 8×50 path I’ll need to clear 10×52, give or take.

It’s a lot of work. It’s not especially difficult work, but it’s pretty boring to just stand in one spot and dig down to rock and then stand in another spot and dig down to rock. Once I’ve got all of the rock exposed the surface mining part should be pretty painless. In the meantime, Moumix has been working on completing our first building on that top tier. I haven’t actually been up there to see it yet since I’ve been working away at the dock area (and napping, and puking.. such is the life of this pregnant lady) but I’m excited to see what he has done, and it’ll be nice to have an actual building again. That way when I need a break from working on the deed (and I will) I can go do something else for a while.

Things are moving along at a nice pace. With three of us all working together I’m sure we’ll have a castle town up in no time.

OH! Also, a blue drake hatchling spawned on the server. A few of us ran around for hours trying to find it yesterday but we had no luck. Instead of heading out again, we’re waiting for it to eat someone and we’ll be able to figure out the location that way. It would be awesome if I won a set of drake, though RNG hates me pretty passionately so I’m not expecting anything out of the kill – still, it would be neat to see the drake and participate in another community event.

As always, happy gaming, no matter where you find yourself!

The Big Move – Day One

It was finally time! Mayameran, Moumix, and myself were ready to move down south. Moumix did most of the work because as usual I was slacking. He packed up all the items from all of our deeds into a wagon and loaded them into his corbita. We each took a vehicle, for me it was my cart and trailing behind me were a few of Mayameran’s animals. Moumix didn’t think that we’d be able to find our way without him – but WE SHOWED HIM and we all did just fine.

It took about 30 minutes to run to the new location down south, through the BG tunnel, across some peat, over the fields. It was a great day for a move. Eventually we made it to Sybaris. That’s the name we came up with. The place is huge – but when you’re sharing it between three different people you want it to be huge. We’ve decided on a tentative plan, with ideas for a grand castle and an elaborate dock. Mayameran is going to handle the animals, and we’ll have lots of pens and fields.

Excited?! YES! I am very excited.

Skills, Skills, and More Skills

A day for working my skills. That’s what I decided, at least. My tools (minus weapon smithing tools) have all been upgraded to 60ql. My armor was all improved to 40ql, at the moment I’m working weapon smithing and I am hoping that by the end of the day I’ll be able to improve weapons to 60ql.

Then of course I’ll need to raise my mining, again. Ideally I’d like my mining skill to be 10 above what I’m improving items to, but my mining has been raising very slowly. Not a big deal, but a mild annoyance. I believe mining ticks work different than the way everything else works, and I need a worse quality pickaxe to get better skills. I haven’t been able to test this yet so it may not be the issue but that’s the way I’m leaning so far.

Natural substance is a skill that I really want to level up, but it’s also the skill I’ve been neglecting the most (aside from channeling). Sitting at a measly 23.13 my dye making has been put on hold until I find a better way of leveling it up. Making healing covers is fine, but it’s slow and I’m sure there’s a better way.

I’m pleased with the progress I’ve made so far and I’m excited to move down south and start the new deed there. My central deed is lovely, but it’s very small (intentionally) and it’ll be nice to create something on a very large grand scale.

As always, happy gaming no matter where you find yourself!

Roads and Guard Towers

Things in Wurm Unlimited are going lovely. Since my mining was a bit behind my other skills I managed to level it up to 60. Blacksmithing is 53, which I’m pleased with for now. I improved my leather armor to 40ql, which is not a huge amount but it is better than nothing. I ended up killing some of my horses to make room for bison instead. I’m not sure when we’re preparing to move down to the Southern deed, but I will probably head that way sometime during the weekend. Moumix wanted to complete a few roads and guard towers first.

I helped him with the guard towers, attaching bricks and clay. My masonry is over 60 now – but since it’s my affinity that’s not really a surprise. There were loads of mobs on the road as he built it, including a large handful of scorpions. Those things are still painful!

I created a (gulp) 3rd character, another Fo priest so I could link with my main one for Lifetransfer casts. Right now she only has 35 faith, but it’s a start. Both Fo priests will stay at my central deed. I haven’t had time to work on channeling yet, but I’ve gotten a few points here and there. I’ve been saving up sleep bonus so I can toggle it on, cast a few spells, and toggle it off once the 5 minute timer wears off. I know I’ll get there eventually.

A few new players joined the server, which I was really happy to see. The more people who play with us the better. There’s a great steady community already but it’s a combination of new players and veterans that really make this game work. Tomorrow I plan on working up my weapon smithing, hopefully I can get to 50, which means I can improve weapons to around 60ql. My “goal” is to reach 70+ but we’ll see how I do.

As always, happy gaming, no matter where you find yourself!

The Longest Tunnel I’ve Ever Seen

Untitled

See that map linked above? That’s Sklotopolis. See that red line that starts up north on the left hand side, and goes way, way, WAY down south? That’s BG Tunnel.

BG Tunnel is a work of art in Wurm Unlimited that I have never seen the likes of before. It’s not just a tunnel through a mountain. It’s a fully excavated tunnel, with sloped ceilings, fully reinforced floor / wall / ceiling, lit with lamps the entire way.

It’s beautiful.

If you’ve never seen a project like this before, I highly suggest coming to check it out. The hours that must have gone into creating this wonder must be astounding – and it’s still a work in progress. Riding through the tunnel on a horse will take 45+ minutes. Riding through on a large cart will take 30 minutes. That’s real time, not wurm time.

Seriously. Go check it out.
