The Big Move – Day One

20160416084530_1

It was finally time! Mayameran, Moumix, and myself were ready to move down south. Moumix did most of the work because as usual I was slacking. He packed up all the items from all of our deeds into a wagon and loaded them into his corbita. We each took a vehicle, for me it was my cart and trailing behind me were a few of Mayameran’s animals. Moumix didn’t think that we’d be able to find our way without him – but WE SHOWED HIM and we all did just fine.

It took about 30 minutes to run to the new location down south, through the BG tunnel, across some peat, over the fields. It was a great day for a move. Eventually we made it to Sybaris. That’s the name we came up with. The place is huge – but when you’re sharing it between three different people you want it to be huge. We’ve decided on a tentative plan, with ideas for a grand castle and an elaborate dock. Mayameran is going to handle the animals, and we’ll have lots of pens and fields.

Excited?! YES! I am very excited.

Skills, Skills, and More Skills

A day for working my skills. That’s what I decided, at least. My tools (minus weapon smithing tools) have all been upgraded to 60ql. My armor was all improved to 40ql, at the moment I’m working weapon smithing and I am hoping that by the end of the day I’ll be able to improve weapons to 60ql.

Then of course I’ll need to raise my mining, again. Ideally I’d like my mining skill to be 10 above what I’m improving items to, but my mining has been raising very slowly. Not a big deal, but a mild annoyance. I believe mining ticks work different than the way everything else works, and I need a worse quality pickaxe to get better skills. I haven’t been able to test this yet so it may not be the issue but that’s the way I’m leaning so far.

Natural substance is a skill that I really want to level up, but it’s also the skill I’ve been neglecting the most (aside from channeling). Sitting at a measly 23.13 my dye making has been put on hold until I find a better way of leveling it up. Making healing covers is fine, but it’s slow and I’m sure there’s a better way.

I’m pleased with the progress I’ve made so far and I’m excited to move down south and start the new deed there. My central deed is lovely, but it’s very small (intentionally) and it’ll be nice to create something on a very large grand scale.

As always, happy gaming no matter where you find yourself!

Roads and Guard Towers

Things in Wurm Unlimited are going lovely. Since my mining was a bit behind my other skills I managed to level it up to 60. Blacksmithing is 53, which I’m pleased with for now. I improved my leather armor to 40ql, which is not a huge amount but it is better than nothing. I ended up killing some of my horses to make room for bison instead. I’m not sure when we’re preparing to move down to the Southern deed, but I will probably head that way sometime during the weekend. Moumix wanted to complete a few roads and guard towers first.

I helped him with the guard towers, attaching bricks and clay. My masonry is over 60 now – but since it’s my affinity that’s not really a surprise. There were loads of mobs on the road as he built it, including a large handful of scorpions. Those things are still painful!

I created a (gulp) 3rd character, another Fo priest so I could link with my main one for Lifetransfer casts. Right now she only has 35 faith, but it’s a start. Both Fo priests will stay at my central deed. I haven’t had time to work on channeling yet, but I’ve gotten a few points here and there. I’ve been saving up sleep bonus so I can toggle it on, cast a few spells, and toggle it off once the 5 minute timer wears off. I know I’ll get there eventually.

A few new players joined the server, which I was really happy to see. The more people who play with us the better. There’s a great steady community already but it’s a combination of new players and veterans that really make this game work. Tomorrow I plan on working up my weapon smithing, hopefully I can get to 50, which means I can improve weapons to around 60ql. My “goal” is to reach 70+ but we’ll see how I do.

As always, happy gaming, no matter where you find yourself!

The Longest Tunnel I’ve Ever Seen

Untitled

See that map linked above? That’s Sklotopolis. See that red line that starts up north on the left hand side, and goes way, way, WAY down south? That’s BG Tunnel.

BG Tunnel is a work of art in Wurm Unlimited that I have never seen the likes of before. It’s not just a tunnel through a mountain. It’s a fully excavated tunnel, with sloped ceilings, fully reinforced floor / wall / ceiling, lit with lamps the entire way.

It’s beautiful.

If you’ve never seen a project like this before, I highly suggest coming to check it out. The hours that must have gone into creating this wonder must be astounding – and it’s still a work in progress. Riding through the tunnel on a horse will take 45+ minutes. Riding through on a large cart will take 30 minutes. That’s real time, not wurm time.

Seriously. Go check it out.

Mining and working on that Fo priest

Moumix completed the corbita and I’ve been working on my mining, clearing out the ore from his already established mine to bring down south (even though we have a mine there, too, it’ll be nice to have ore ready). Today I’ve been working on my Fo priest, I’m trying to get her to 60 faith. I’d also like to work on her animal skills but that will come with time.

Charm wore off of the champion wolf pretty quickly, and I don’t want the wolf to be charmed when she gives birth because then the baby wolf will attack her and will die. Sort of defeats the purpose of breeding wolves that way. I do want 60 faith though so aggro creatures don’t come after her, the wolf is currently in my farm land which means I’ll need to avoid the pen when she’s untamed until I reach the faith amount required.

Meditation is another thing I’m (slowly) working on. The cool down timers for path questions are shortened by 80% which makes a huge difference. Both of my characters are on rank 5 of their paths, and have a bit less than a week to wait until they can move to rank 6. At rank 7 I’ll be able to start enchanting grass, something my horses will be pleased about.

Blacksmithing is at 48, just shy of making level 60 gear (I can typically make gear 10 levels above my skill) – I need to raise my mining to the same level otherwise I won’t be able to improve gear that far. Mining is moving at a much slower pace, I worked on some copper and zinc today and only gained 2 points which puts me at around 56 (slightly over). Ideally I’d like to reach 60 in mining before I start improving tools to 60.

I’m noticing more and more cliques on the server. People who carry over the ways and rules of WO and who are adamant that their way is the only way (or at least the only right way). It’s interesting to watch the ebb and flow, I typically keep to myself, answer questions where I can, and just watch the other discussions going on. There’s a lot of… genital waving (for lack of a better term) that goes on between people as they each try to one up the other with their stats from WO and other achievements like PVP and who knew who or who was around first and remembers the very first servers. That comes in pretty much every game, and I find it amusing when I see it carried over here, too.

I still have no neighbours even though I live pretty close to the spawn area. I imagine all of the deeds around me must be abandoned. I’ve reported one because there’s absolutely nothing built there, but the others I’m giving a bit of time. I’ve seen a lot of new players log in recently and one comment they all have in common is that it doesn’t seem like there’s a lot of land around for them to settle on. I personally wish there was a better method of dealing with abandoned deeds – but I also remind them that they need to move further away from populated areas and they’ll find lots of places to settle.

Tomorrow? I work on… who knows! I never run out of things to do in Wurm Unlimited. Happy gaming, no matter where you find yourself!
