Progress is Progress – Harmony Day 5

The steam launch & server launch of Harmony happened on Friday just before noon my time, and it is now early morning on Tuesday, so this marks my 5th day – and of course I’m still enjoying it. The population numbers have barely dipped, and for Wurm, this is a big deal.

Lag yesterday was VASTLY improved, even with 1,000+ on Harmony. There have been some.. issues, with things, like imbues & potions, but nothing dramatic. Trade chat has been changed to include just our clusters since you can’t mail things between the old Freedom and new Freedom servers.

Stargrazer (character on Harmony in case you want to say hello) is sitting at 21.03 faith, I need 30 before I can become a priest of Vynora. I purchased a meditation rug (for 2 silver!) from someone who came to deliver it, and I have also been working up meditation – which is VERY SLOW in case you were wondering. You can reach 15 meditation, then pick a path, and I have no idea which path I will go down. The ‘usual’ path is Path of love for refresh (I find this unhelpful) & enchanting grass (more helpful). Plus I already have Stargrace on Path of Knowledge for the increased skill gains.

These are not set-in-stone decisions that have to be made right away, but they’re things I’d like to figure out before I get there.

Also someone in village has almost reached 80 carpentry already. I find that a bit insane. My skills are coming along, but they’re no where near that.

A Part of Something ‘Bigger’

I’m not sure why I decided to main a priest – I think it’s because I already HAVE a main on the freedom servers, and I’m not really keen on starting from scratch in that way. A priest though. A priest would be wonderful.

The thing is, priests can’t do everything in game. They can’t improve items. Depending on which priest you choose you may not be able to mine (Vynora). That’s the path I decided to take.

Since servers came up on Friday I’ve managed to reach 19 faith. I need 30 before I can be converted into a priest. I’ve been dedicated in getting those prayer timers, and I also did another ‘new’ thing for me – I joined a large community.

Normally, I set out on my own. I typically want my own place, doing things my own way. This time since I’m focusing on a character that can’t improve items or even mine, I decided I wanted to join a larger community and really just help out and play in a different method than I normally do.

It’s going alright so far. I’m not 100% convinced this is ‘the deed’ for me, but the people are nice. I know a few of them as old timers from back when I was more involved with wurm (we’re talking 2012 here) and it’s not a perfect fit but it’s an interesting one.

Hopefully the project gets off the ground (a market) but even if it doesn’t, I’m having fun, and that’s really what matters.

Happy gaming, no matter where you find yourself!

Welcome to Harmony

Today was the steam launch of Wurm Online – and along with it came a brand new server. There were definitely some hiccups, but for me, personally, things were very smooth.

Since I already have characters on Wurm I decided NOT to use the steam client. There’s really no difference between the two game play wise. You can’t use the steam client to log in old characters, though you can use either the old client or the steam one to play on any server with a new character. Does that make sense?

So I logged in to Golden Valley (the tutorial zone), passed through the magical portal to Harmony (PvE server) and immediately set off to raise my body skill to 1.5 and my alignment to 1.0 so that I could talk to the NPC in the chapel and become a follower of Vynora.

No real issues with any of that.

Afterwards I tried to get another character in game, and it turned out that there were some throttling issues going on, so it took quite a bit of time. My priest character will be joining a large market village and working towards skills that are preferred for a priest, and my second character is just to establish a little village for myself, nothing fancy. It’s hard NOT to set up a deed in Wurm I’ve found.

I eventually stumbled into the perfect area on the East Coast. A little bay with mountain, sand, trees, and clay all right on deed. SCORE!

I can’t wait to get it set up. I’m not expecting to make anything too fancy, but we’ll see how it goes. I also haven’t unlocked any affinity skills yet, or raised any skills that high yet, but it will come with time, I’m sure.

I LOVE Getting Mail

I love getting mail – it has always left me with a really happy feeling inside, but I ESPECIALLY like getting soft squishy yarn mail. I’m expecting quite a few packages and since our mail is very slow, it’s taking a long time to get here. So far I have received the amazing squishy sparkle yarn pictured above – a prize from my recent participation in a knit in public day. I didn’t do it in “public” so much as my back yard because hey, covid, but I still managed to have RNG in my favour this one time.

I’m pretty sure I’m going to turn this into socks, but I’m not sure if I want to hand knit them or machine knit them. Speaking of – I’m expecting a Brother KH-930 to show up (along with an 830 ribber) in the near future. I can’t WAIT to try it out. I hope it all arrives in good condition.

I’m also expecting a few fiber bats, and more yarn. BRING ON THE MAIL!

1/2 a pair – completed!

I’ve made two previous attempts at socks – the first one was a disaster, the second one less of a disaster and this is the results of the third one! An actual sock, that I can wear. Not perfect, I dropped a lot of stitches from the toe, and I didn’t knit it long enough so I hand-stitched a toe onto it, but it’s a functional awesome sock, and I’m really quite proud of it.

Now I need to knit up the second one. This is done in knitpicks felici yarn, so it’s nice and soft, and I just love it.
