Knitting

Washcloth 2/9

I bought 3 skeins of 100% cotton ‘Dishie’ yarn from Knitpicks during a sale not too long ago, and now I’m making washcloths for the family with it. I can get around 3 washcloths per skein, giving me around 9 and some change to knit. I just started the third one, the first two are not perfect but that’s the joy of creating something hand knit. I’m using a pattern called ‘Pips’ which is also from knitpicks. It’s a simple two line repeat that leaves a fairly detailed and scrubby texture – perfect for cotton cloths.

Wash Cloth (1)

I have a few skeins of 100% cotton that I bought specifically to make wash cloths out of, so I decided on a pattern (it’s a 2 row repeat, very easy to memorize) and have gotten started. Hopefully they don’t take me that long to complete. I’m aiming for 2 wash cloths per skein, but we’ll see how that goes. I absolutely love hand knit wash cloths, they are good for a number of things and are pretty great for in the shower due to the texture of the cotton. Every few years I like to add to the collection as they do get worn with time, the family uses them that much.

Yarn Storage

One of my favourite things to do in life is to clean and organize. I’m not kidding, nothing gives me as much satisfaction as cleaning up a room in the house. I just don’t get a lot of time to do that without someone needing my attention. I picked up these cube containers from Amazon (please, I don’t need a lecture, Amazon is one of the few places that ships to my location and there is nothing local) and me and my husband spent an afternoon building them and then I organized some yarn. I figure I’ll be more likely to use up pieces in my stash if I can actually SEE them there, and it should be much easier to keep them in mind for projects. Plus it was just nice to get them out of the bin that sits under the table.
