Forever Wandering Through Games

Untitled

How long has it been since you stuck with a single MMO for at least a year? I remember when Tipa used to put out a challenge to people to stick with a single game for a year, and almost no one could accomplish it even when the choices were much more limited, let alone these days where there are games for every genre you could possibly think of. Sure, we may play one game at a time, or two games, or have some combination of F2P & subscription, but more and more I notice that we are ALL becoming nomadic gamers, bouncing between games when the mood strikes (or when that new shiny pops up on the table).

This isn’t necessarily a bad thing. It’s just something I’ve noticed over the years. I would love to be one of those people who stick with a single game for any length of time but I simply don’t have that in me any more (for a few reasons). One reason would have to be the price point. Money fluctuates throughout the year and my game choices will change based on that. A good example is EQ2. My subscription expires the 2nd week of July, so I find very little motivation to log in and play right now as I know I won’t be re-subscribing (baby on the way, I simply have to re-allocate my funds for a bit). I’ve never really enjoyed playing games with a sub as a F2P player, not because I think F2P is “bad” but because I’d rather have access to the entire game. Speaking of – why doesn’t Trion offer some sort of bulk subscription plan that offers access to all of their games, much like station access? Rift and ArcheAge would certainly be two games I’d love to check out more of, but I’m not sure how I’d feel about the F2P options (especially in ArcheAge where owning land is tied to having a subscription). Offer a package deal and those subscriptions become a lot more favorable. I blame Belghast and Bhagpuss for my sudden interest in Trion games, both of them have been posting about Rift / ArcheAge on their blogs. I was interested enough that I updated glyph though I haven’t actually logged in (yet).

Speaking of EQ2, a new server opened up yesterday. It’s the Isle of Refuge, and it runs just as all the other servers in the EQ2 line up do, except the majority of items can be sold / traded and don’t have the heirloom tag. There’s a great write up about it over at EQ2wire, and the server reminds me a lot of Firiona Vie, the RP server over on EQ. There are a few other rules to the FV server besides that but it was one that stuck out to me. Why Daybreak has added such a server I have no idea (nor does anyone else it seems if you read through the comments on the article) but it’s nice to see things are not completely stagnant.

10 Days of EVE Online for .99? Sure!

2016.03.26.01.54.41

Lately I’ve heard the siren’s call to return to EVE Online, but I’m reluctant to spend $15/m USD, especially since that’s really $21.22 Canadian a month. You can imagine my excitement when I saw that there was a ‘come back for 10 days’ deal going on. There seems to be two versions. One version is come back for free, and this seems to be aimed at those who have been away for quite a while. Then there’s also a come back for .99 (the same 10 days) and this seems to be aimed at people who have been away, but not for as long. I have two accounts, and received both emails. At first I was confused, I thought it was my main accounts that had received the 10 days free vs. my alt account who received the .99 offer – but it’s actually the other way around.

I signed up for the 10 days, and I may end up picking up the $9.99 deal that I also have. I do have a PLEX stashed away for a rainy day too, so that’s always an option.

As always, it was easy to dive right back in. I had a bunch of holiday claim items and I took those back to my main base first. Then I set out working Caldari State faction, which is what I was trying to fix last time I was playing. I’m still only able to run Level 1 missions, and in a Tengu this is extreme overkill, so I managed to grind my way through quite a few quests as well as the special storyline missions that pop up after you’ve completed a number of those. I didn’t bother salvaging or looting any of my kills, though I know I could have for a bit of extra money. I was more interested in just getting as many missions done as I could.

I didn’t dive back into invention like I typically do, though I’m debating setting up my 2nd account for the 10 free days so that I can do some mining between my orca and a hulk. My 2nd account is my mining account, and my main I use for hauling. It would be nice to make some extra cash and mining is always so relaxing.

Have you taken advantage of the return to EVE email?

As always, happy gaming no matter where you find yourself!

Missions, Missions, and more Missions

2015.11.28.19.53.57

[44/50] EVE Online is probably one of the most beautiful games I’ve ever played. Pair that with the amazing soundtrack, and it’s no wonder I can relax so easily while playing. I’ve been working on fixing my Caldari State faction, which is really not an exciting task, but I need to get it done so that my R&D agents keep working with me.

[45/50] Working missions does send me out to some pretty beautiful locations.

2015.11.22.21.34.41

[46/50] Now all I need to do is figure out what ship I want to work towards next. Maybe a drake? I prefer building the ships myself when that’s possible, but I haven’t really looked at what I want to fly since I obtained the Tengu. Or maybe instead of any of that I’ll start mining again, it has been ages since I’ve really done that, which tempts me to start up my second account. I do have a plex just sitting around collecting dust.

Graviton Physics – The bane of my existence

2015.11.22.21.26.55

[31/50] Doing L1 distribution missions in my Tengu – why? Because I can. Well actually it’s more like because I have to. See, I recently returned to EVE Online and wanted to check in with my R&D agents – except one of my agents now suddenly hates me and won’t talk to me, even though I’m pretty sure we parted on OK terms last time I was playing. I’m not quite sure what happened, maybe I left a faction quest incomplete, or maybe I worked a quest for an opposing faction that lowered this one. In any case, my R&D agent is insisting that I run lower level missions and earn back her trust.

Low level missions are not much of a challenge for me these days, but everyone has to start some where, and hey I needed a refresher course in pretty much everything anyway.

2015.11.22.17.43.22

[32/50] I did also manage to cut down some of the crap that I had floating around at various stations. I even made a little notebook dedicated to EVE Online stuff and marked down which stations were service what purpose (ie: home storage, invention, etc). Nothing fancy, but I do love organizing.

2015.11.22.17.40.02

[33/50] I put a blueprint original in to copy, and was a bit surprised at how quickly it completed. In the past there were days when I would have to wait almost a month for a copy to complete, but now it was just a matter of hours. I also put in a few manufacturing runs, creating more drones and then T2 drones from those runs. Eventually I’ll need to make a run to Jita to sell everything I’ve been collecting, but it’s quite a jump from where I’m set up, so I’ll wait until I have a good amount before setting out.

2015.11.22.16.48.08

[34/50] I haven’t started back into Planetary Interaction yet, but everything should be set up so that all I need to do is go collect my storage items and set the factories running again (I know they’re not actually called factories, but that’s what I consider them to be). I had thought of starting up some new PI from scratch, as my setups are quite old and are probably not optimal any more, but on the other hand, why re-do it when they already work. Components from my PI setup used to sell for a pretty nice amount in the past, but I have no idea if that’s still the case. I suppose I’ll see when I haul it all to Jita.

2015.11.10.21.21.24

[35/50] The changes to the skill queue system are not that new any more, but it still surprises me to see when I have 139 days worth of skills queued up. Right now I’m working on shield emission systems, mostly because of the reduced capacitor need for shield emission system modules. I have a bunch of ‘reduce capacitor need’ skills in the queue right now, my Tengu fit isn’t stable – though it doesn’t need to be because I rarely have everything active at once, still the longer I can keep it running, the better. Once I’m done with those skills (is anyone ever really ‘done’) I’ll go back to my production / mining skills, and toss a few more drone skills in there just because.

For me, EVE is a very calm game. I know that isn’t always the case, especially with so much PVP built into it – but as a PVE player, I adore it. You just have to remember not to get too attached to your thinks.

Collecting Datacores (Again)

2015.11.10.04.52.24

[18/50] Next thing I wanted to do was head out to all my R&D agents and pick up my datacores. I’m not sure if faction decreases over time, but for some reason one of my R&D agents now hates me, and I can’t interact with them to spend my RP (I’m at -2.9 standing, did I maybe decline a mission unknowingly? This is a possibility). I’ll have to figure out a way to fix that before too long. I tried to get my agents all in the same area, but of course it doesn’t always work out that way. The R&D agent I’ve apparently lost faction with is my graviton physics datacore supplier, which I use quite frequently in my line of crafting, so I’m a bit miffed at whatever happened.

I ran around to the agents I was able to visit, picked up my cores, and hauled them all over to my crafting area. Since I didn’t have the datacores that I wanted, I decided to start 1 copying job, and 4 manufacturing jobs (10 runs each job) in the meantime while I figure out what I want to do about the R&D situation.

I also decided I should clean out the bits that I have spread all over the universe. I looked at where my assets were at, and labeled what each location was for (as in what the purpose was of me even being there). One location I consider “home”, another I use as my base for missions, and a third for my crafting location. The other areas are just junk that I’ve got strewn about, like my smallest ships located in Jita for whatever reason. I’ve also got a PLEX stored up that I’m contemplating using, either to sign my second account up for a little while to use for mining, or to sell off for a bit more ISK. I don’t really need ISK especially if I get back into production and PI but it does come in handy.

I still don’t feel like I’ve remembered everything I need to (yet) or feel that I’m particularly settled. There’s still a lot of changes that I don’t know about and that I’m sure I’ll stumble into. With that being said, it is sure nice to be playing again.
