Wurm Online

6 Months of Progress in Wurm Online

wurm.20141203.0840

Wurm is one of those delightful games where your work is never done. It has infinite replayability, and every time you play it the game is going to be different. I haven’t done a lot of Wurm posts this year, but I’ve still been playing. Back in June I made the move from Pristine to Xanadu, a giant megaserver that was opened. Xanadu differs from the other servers in the fact that there are no personal traders allowed. Those are the NPC you can purchase for 50 silver from starter town merchants (other traders). It’s also gigantic compared to the other servers. I have barely explored any of it where as I was quite familiar with Deliverance, Pristine, and a good portion of Exodus.

I’ve been at this deed location for 6 months now, and I love it. I haven’t purchased any other deeds (which is new for me, typically I own a handful) and I have no intention of moving (though I would like to explore a bit more). My deed is not done but a good portion of it is. There is still a path leading up to my mine that I’m working on, my olive and grape farms need some more sprouts, and I’m contemplating a larger house for my character (but we’ll see, it’s mostly just to use up space). The deed is 41 x 37 which is a fair size, and upkeep is 3 silver 3 copper and 40 iron. I don’t own any guards so that helps the cost quite a bit. I have roughly 25 horses but most of them are grey and I’m only keeping that many so that I can work my animal husbandry skill and try to get the elusive 5 speed. Once I get a higher AH skill and some more colours I’ll cull them.

My buildings are pretty sparse, and I’m thinking of working on that. I think I want a separate building for tailoring and smithing. Right now I have one large workshop for everything. I also have a building that servers as a kitchen, with my pantry and ovens. I have a stable running along the back of the deed, and a small 2×2 personal home. I’ve seen some fantastic elaborate homes on the forums, and I’m contemplating building something more extravagant. We’ll see I suppose. I dislike making mortar, but I do have an infinite supply of clay, so it could be worse.

Then of course there’s my mine. It’s quite small. I have contemplated setting up another deed for the chance at a larger mine, but I’m not sure if I really want to. I have enough iron to keep me busy for the next few years, maybe once I have exhausted those sources I’ll contemplate another. I’d like to get a few more different types of ore.. We’ll just have to see how that goes.

As always, happy gaming, no matter where you find yourself!

When did they Add all This?!

Wardrobe

Every so often when I’m playing Wurm Online I’ll get the sudden realization that an item or two has slipped into the game that I have never heard of before. I love these moments! I experienced it when they added seals, again when I discovered spinning wheels and sheep, and then once more this morning when I realized that they have added a great selection of decoration items to fine carpentry, as well as items to tailoring.

I have been waiting for more decoration items for quite some time and the team has done an absolutely amazing job.

Now we’re not restricted to barren castles or homes, we can add furniture, and colour! Of course in order to create these items you do need a bit of skill. My fine carpentry is 32 on my main (much higher on an alt that I am no longer using, since alts need their own subscriptions) which is a nice start but no where near the amount I need to make say a canopy bed. That puts me right in line for my next goal, working on fine carpentry. I’m busy burning all of my sleep bonus and skilling it up, slowly.

Plus, lets not forget that bridges are coming VERY soon! It’s a pretty great time to be playing Wurm.

Bridges? BRIDGES! #WurmOnline

wurm.20141017.1039_1

Remember when I wrote about bridges coming to Wurm Online? Way back when, November of last year? Well, the time has finally come. It was announced that bridges will be making their way to the live game very soon (rumor has it the update is December 10th).

Excited? I sure am, especially on a server like Xanadu where everything is split up by huge bodies of water. I think this update will be fantastic, and it will make travel much easier. I haven’t been doing a whole lot of traveling lately, opting instead to work close to home on random things that need to get done, but I always get the urge to go exploring and can’t wait to see what people do with this update.

I’ve been helping a neighour build their obelisk, so far the bronze portion is done along with a handful of bricks, but it’s slow going. I don’t mind, I tend to work on it during off hours when I’m watching TV or just relaxing. Thanks to the updated craft window it’s quite easy to simply queue 4 actions and let it run its course. I have also been debating what to do about keeping my priests active, I really enjoy my Vynora priest, and I enjoy aspects of my Fo priest but don’t make as much use out of the character as the Vynora. That being said, for now both priests are active (along with my main).

There is only a small portion of undeveloped land now on my deed, it runs along the side where my mine is and behind my stables. I’ve slowly been working that land and while I’m not sure what I’ll create there yet (more housing perhaps?) it’s nice to know that it will be ready for whatever I decide to do with it. Speaking of stables, horse breeding is going well. I’m hoping I get to add more colours to the herd soon, at the moment all of my horses are grey minus two brown ones and one black. 2 speed is as high as I have gotten, but I know that will get better the more I progress my herd. It’s winter in Wurm right now, and everything is covered with a nice dusting of snow. Some players dislike this season but personally I adore it (just like in real life) – it also makes things much easier to spout on the ground.

As always, happy gaming, no matter where you find yourself!

Typical Deed Work

wurm.20141028.0217

My deed in Wurm Online is coming along nicely. I managed to finish the stables and terraform a good portion of the upper tier, the last part of the deed that is still pretty much mountainside. The latest patches brought about an influx of animals to the Xanadu server as they continue to search for the “perfect balance” and I’ve started noticing a good number wandering around my place, which is nice because when I first moved in there were no animals around at all and I had to wander quite a bit to find any. Lately this includes seals, like the one pictured above. I’m not really sure if these new creatures can be used for anything but they’re non-aggro and adorable to watch.

With the stables done I have been thinking about what project I would like to work on next. The Vynora priest is still doing well. On that character I have been leveling up the typical priest skills (nature and the like) as well as channeling. Animal husbandry just finally reached 30 today, allowing me to care for one more animal and see more traits. Horse breeding is going well, as is sheep and cow. Cooking is already at 70 so for the time being I’m not leveling it up.

I’ve been working on fine carpentry along with weapon smithing on my main, tied in with some chain armour smithing. All of these skills seem to level very slow, so I can only handle them in short spurts before moving on to something else. Wurm Online is not for the faint of heart, it can take years to get skills to the cap of 100 (minus things like alignment, that doesn’t really count). Still, I find the game relaxing and fun and I’m enjoying working on my deed. There’s so much to do, I suppose the real challenge is narrowing it down.

As always, happy gaming, no matter where you find yourself!

Sheep? SHEEP!

wurm.20141016.1421

Ah yes, Wurm Online. No matter how many times I seem to step away from this game, eventually it just draws me back in. Maybe it’s the colder weather and the comforting music the game plays. Maybe it’s the fact that no matter how hard I try I can’t seem to find a sandbox game that satisfies me in quite the same way. Whatever the reason, I found myself patching yesterday and happy that my account still had premium on it until February.

There have been some changes to the game since last I played, which I was glad to see. Some graphic updates, server updates, and a few other tid bits like – sheep. Seals had been added just before I took my break (about 50 days ago) but I still haven’t seen any and I’m not sure if they have any use. Sheep can be sheered for their wool, but right now the wool has no use. You can also breed them so of course I wasted no time heading out and finding a pair to breed. You can see them in the screenshot above, bunched up together as most Wurm Online mobs seem to do for some odd reason.

A new feature was also implemented that gives players a chance to find coin when foraging, botanizing, and killing animals. You have a higher chance if you’re killing domesticated animals like horses. You can then take these coins to a trader in exchange for actual coin. It’s not a huge change, but a fun little aspect to the game that players will enjoy, especially since it affects new and old players alike.

Since I had been away for almost two months I had to do some light maintenance before I could go out exploring. All of my female horses were dead, along with two bulls. In order to breed more horses (still trying to get 5 speed) I needed to find some females. Thankfully with the newly boosted creature ratio that was really no problem at all. While out looking for sheep and horses I also managed to find some bull, which I took home and added to the cow pen.

The majority of the deed was just fine, if not a little overgrown with trees so I trimmed those down and started working on a new stable area. I also purchased some in-game currency so I could pay the upkeep on my deed for the next 100+ days, I don’t want decay to settle in nor do I want to risk losing a deed I have worked so hard on. The alliance is still playing and still going strong. A few more alt deeds have gone up and with the newly distributed ore from yesterdays update I have found copper and silver in my mine that wasn’t there before. Considering the majority of the place was iron, I couldn’t be more pleased.

As always, happy gaming, no matter where you find yourself!
