Wurm Unlimited

What Sets your Server Apart?

20160719051116_1

When I first started playing on a new to me Wurm Unlimited server, it was quite awkward. Even though I had never heard of the server before, or any of the GMs, or any of the players, somehow, someone ended up telling the GMs that I left my previous server under dramatic terms, and that I would probably bring the drama here to the new server. They snooped my SteamID and found that I was playing somewhere new. It was awkward for me because I had stopped playing on the previous server way back in early June when I had some pregnancy medical stuff come up, I had never left on bad terms and still visited my deeds there weekly. I wasn’t even personally aware of any drama. It turned even more confusing when the GM of the new server called me out on public channels, then accused me of DDoSing the server in retribution of my previous server losing players (in tells).

I was pretty stunned.

Apparently this all happened because of ‘someone’ (I still don’t know who) telling the GM I cause drama. Anyway, long story short, I told the GM my version of things, explained that I really had no idea what he was talking about, and that I actually came to the new (to me) server because of population issues. Ages of Urath (the newest server I’m playing on) is the 2nd most populated Wurm Unlimited server, and I wanted to try playing there because obviously there’s a reason so many people enjoy it. While I love Sklotopolis, I feel that the GMs are very hands off, and the population has been waning. Am I a bad person for playing on a different server? I don’t think so. I donated to both servers, and enjoy my time on each. That’s how it goes with MMOs. I want to play on a server where the GMs and staff are involved in the day-to-day activities and things don’t turn stagnant. I think lots of gamer’s want that.

I’ve been playing on Ages of Urath for about a week now. Quietly doing my own thing so that I can’prove’ to staff and GMs that honestly all I want to do is play the game. Silly that I should have to prove myself this way, but it’s best if I just keep to myself. As I’ve played I’ve discovered just what makes this a fantastic server, even with the misunderstandings.

The staff is VERY hands-on, and I love that. There are CA / GM around almost constantly, and there are always events going on. The code has been tweaked, and many mods have been added. They code their own changes, they take care of the server. Animals have new skins, there are panda and zebra. The bounty system has been tweaked. They have three clusters at the moment, a main spawn cluster, a pve hunting island (you need around 70 fight skill to survive here), and a pvp cluster. They have grand ideas of adding more in the future. Their server has a backstory, and the players are friendly. These are all things I love to see in a Wurm Unlimited server, and I’m glad I decided to stick things out with them. Hopefully whoever was spreading rumors about me causing drama understands that this just isn’t true, and things stay nice and quiet.

As always, happy gaming, no matter where you find yourself!

Pre-Legion Stuff, and Wurm Unlimited

20160715062029_1

Even though I haven’t been blogging nearly as much as I’d like to, I’m still here, still gaming in between rounds of real life kicking me down. I’m 25 weeks pregnant now and things have become a lot more real. Since I have no family or friends out where I live now I won’t be having a baby shower or anything like that, so I decided to post a public baby registry for anyone who wanted to help me out with some baby items. It takes a village, after all.

In gaming news, I had to cancel my EQ2 account since it was up for renewal this weekend and I don’t think I could afford it for another year. Sad times, but hey that’s what making grown up decisions is about. I’ve got over a year of game time on my WoW account, and Legion is fast approaching, so that’s where most of my gaming excitement lay these days. The pre-Legion patch comes out on Tuesday, July 19th and I am incredibly excited for a number of reasons. Most of those reasons involve transmog changes, I won’t lie.

I’m also still playing through games in my steam library, and that includes Wurm Unlimited, where I don’t have to worry about a subscription fee and still get to enjoy one of my favourite games of all time. I’ve been working on a new little deed that I hope becomes a dainty fishing village. Most of the towns I’ve created end up being large elaborate stone homes with very little ‘small town’ country feel. Whether or not I can pull that off with this new place has yet to be seen, but it gives me a project to work on at least. Pictured above is a new-to-me Champion creature that I ran into yesterday, thankfully with some help I was able to take it down.

Even after all of these years I couldn’t tell you what exactly it is about Wurm Online/Unlimited that draws me in. The community fluctuates, there are a lot of really wonderful people but then again there’s a few less-than-nice folk out there too. These days I’m keeping to myself and just doing my thing, it’s easier that way.

Excited about Legion? Playing some new game you just have to share? Enjoying the summer months? Let me know in comments! As always, happy gaming, no matter where you find yourself.

Happy 10th Anniversary, Wurm Online

cchampy

Today marks the 10th anniversary of Wurm Online, a game I’ve been playing in one version or another (most recently with Wurm Unlimited) for over 7 years now. It’s one of a handful of games that keeps me coming back and that I find highly addictive (in a very good way).

In celebration, a number of things are going on. I ended up signing up for two months of premium so that I could better partake. This granted me 5 silver, a tin leather knife, a returners mask, and a gift box with sleep powder. A lot of people are (of course) displeased with their gifts and are moaning about the lack of creativity and how they wish it was something different, but I’m quite happy with mine. Besides, we could have gotten nothing at all.

A big round of updates has come to pass too. With it came Rifts, neat little events that open every few days on each server. You can also create houses underground now, so living life like a dwarf is a definite possibility. It’s nice to see such a large update, and it’s great to see so many people returning / still playing.

I took inventory of what I had in my bags across the handful of characters I still have, made sure my main (the only one premium at this time) had the best of everything, and then set to work cleaning up the two deeds I own right away. I’m currently creating a path that leads from the market deed to my main deed, and I’ll pave it and get it done up all pretty. I know I was working on weaponsmithing, but I’ll probably swap over to something else for a bit, just because.

It’s quite a difference to see how fast (or slow) skills move in WO compared to custom servers in WU. My 7 year old character in WO has low skills compared to my 2 month old character in WU, but I take more pride in the older character (which is pretty normal, I assume).

In any case, it’s nice to be playing again, even if just for a short while.

A Red Dragon Fell

20160529130712_1

The lurking red dragon had been hanging around for a while but no one was really out hunting it until a week or two ago. The crowds gathered, and we all wondered if we would have the manpower to take down the beast. Especially since we were missing some key (ie: high skilled) players.

The fight went smooth, even though a few lost their lives and it wasn’t “easy” by any means. It was fun. In the end there were 6 suits of dragon scale to award, along with a rare bone, a skull, and the corpse.

I didn’t win anything (again, RNG and I are not on speaking terms) but Moumix from my alliance did, and so did his wife. He donated his rare bone to Melketh, the tank of the evening (so he can tank in the future with more rare gear) and his wife won a lovely set of scale.

I think it was a good time had by all even if it wasn’t our largest event. Some new players turned up to help and that’s always a good thing. Now we have a Champion Troll King roaming the lands, and that is a beast of an entirely different nature. The chances of us being able to defeat him are pretty slim. Champions are scary creatures, and the troll king has an insane regeneration rate. I suppose we’ll just have to see.

As always, happy gaming, no matter where you find yourself!

Sklotopolis Updates

20160513054958_1

I know I haven’t been writing that much over the past few weeks (months?) but I have still been gaming. Today I’ll talk about what I’ve been up to in Wurm Unlimited.

I decided to drop the smaller deed called Quail Ridge that I had because it was quite far away from my ‘main’ deed and it was a pain to travel to. I prefer it out in the Southern part of the map where there’s less population, and I couldn’t really justify keeping a deed that was hours away. Instead I created Sybaris Stables, which (as the name shows) is an animal stable area. Mostly for hell horses. The GMs fixed the spawn issue we were having and hell creatures have begun showing up again. I ran out over the steppe and brought back 6 hell horses – but the guards like to attack them. They can avoid being attacked by being branded, but this doesn’t help the babies not be attacked, especially if they’re born when I’m offline.

The deed is the default (free) size of 10x10x9x9 and I spent the first day terraforming it so that it’s flat. I then added 12 2×2 pens for breeding pairs, 4 5×4 pens for crops + grazing animals like deer, a very small 3×3 house with the basics, and a larger pen for anything else that I may want. I surrounded the deed by a tall stone wall so that it’s protected from creatures outside (since I have no guards) locked the doors, added some altars, and ta da. Nothing fancy, but a great place to keep animals.

Aside from that, Sybaris Sales has opened. I’ve been creating tools and enchanting them (and weapons) and selling them to players. I also create dye and sell that. I’ve made about 25 silver so far which is a pretty respectable amount for being open only a week so far.

For some reason about two or three weeks ago, all of the community assistants quit playing. They went from 12+ hours a day (some of them) to 0-1 hours. I suppose that’s the issue with having CA all from the same alliance. Mizova, Corax, Melketh, and Mara, most notably. Every so often one will log in and say hi and there’s a rumor going around that ‘they’re all just busy’ but my guess is that they’re just playing someplace else together. There also hasn’t been any sign of Noskull, nor have I seen Devily, Yala, and a few of the others. The community does a fairly good job of running themselves, but it strikes me as weird. I wonder if there was a bit of drama or some such.

In any case, deed things are going well. Moumix is away for a work trip for the week so it has just been myself and Maya. I’ve now got four characters total in game, two Vynora and two Fo priests. It means I can cast LT and MS (though I don’t quite have the favour for MS) so that’s good. Otherwise, it’s just business as usual in game!

As always, happy gaming, no matter where you find yourself.
