New Levels, New Gear, New Memories

Yesterday was a little bit of everything game-wise, well EQ2 wise at least. It was great. The coercer crept into New Tunaria with Wpus and we lay waste to all the elves that came in range, dinging her 66. Out of vitality (and most of my experience potions now) it was still refreshing to hit that level with less then two days played. I also spent some time working her tradeskill level, and she’s sitting at an even 30. Out of vitality in that department as well.

I also helped Kasul out with an epic kill in Neriak (assassin epic) which was no easy feat for me because I had to invis my little templar out that way. I thought the lag I was experiencing was going to kill me before any of the orange epic guards did. Glad to help him progress that though.

I was going to work on the defiler, who is sitting at about 30% through level 77 but wasn’t really in the mood to grind quests. Even though I’d love to get the Moors faction recipes that I’ve spent a few months talking about now. I just can’t seem to stick with the quest grinding. Upgraded the coercers clothes, and today maybe I’ll upgrade some spells. Aside from her charm, mez and root, she’s only sporting app1 of everything. When your charmed pet is killing things for 17,000 damage you spend most of your time just watching for adds and making sure charm doesn’t break. Have I mentioned how much I love that coercer? Thought so.

I’ve been spending a lot of time just thinking, too. I’ve been playing EQ2 since release,  something I never had the chance to do with EQ1. In fact I had just started playing EQ1 (had been playing for a year) when EQ2 released. Over the course of the years some of the memories I’ve had have been exceptionally amazing. I’ve met some amazing people. Before I started writing for Beckett I was a guide, and though it was really hard not to write about any of my experiences, it was some of the greatest (and also some of the most stressful) in game times I had. Being a guide fulfilled the whole ‘roleplay’ aspect to the game for me that my regular playing was missing. I loved the adventures and I loved interacting with the player base on that level. I won’t soon forget it. Not to mention the absolutely incredible people who run the program.

When I started writing for Beckett, I found that between playing the game, being a guide, playing other games I was delving into, and keeping that thing called ‘real life’ going something was going to have to give. While I loved being a guide, writing for Beckett pays, so it was (in the end) an easier decision for me. I don’t regret the choice to this day but every so often I still get that roleplay urge and have to find a creative means of venting.

I know that some people think these games are ‘just games’ but when I look back on so many years of memories and friendships that have grown into real life friends, all of the stories shared, it is just an incredible experience in general, and I’m so happy to have been a part of it all.

More fun in Instances

Yesterday was just some brief time spent in game as once again real life has reared it’s ugly head and seems to be having fun ping ponging everyone all over the place. Without going into any details, it has been some of the most difficult times I’ve had to deal with, and I’ve dealt with my fair share.

I did a little exping on the coercer, the conjuror and shadowknight I typically play with were around for a bit and we decided to try to do Halls of Fate – mentored to level 61. It was a crazy attempt since the mobs even outside the zone are 68, but it was fun. Needless to say we didn’t make it too far. Especially since the level 61 was a coercer which meant we had no healer. Before that we had attempted to trio the Obelisk of A in Moors – with a healer, but still only 77 and we almost made it past the first room before calling it. Almost. It was still some of the most fun I’ve ever had in game.

Afterwards we decided to aim for something more realistic. The Nest in Barren Sky would be slightly above our level, but we felt confident that we could handle that sans healer and the shadowknight tank just life taping his way.

There were laughs, and deaths but eventually the zone fell and the coercer managed to ding 63. I took a break and then later headed to New Tunaria to ding 64. The defiler has reached 28 carpenter, and I’m working my way towards 30.

Aside from that, here’s hoping real life quiets down, and I truly hope everyone has a wonderful day.

Everfrost Beauty

Just two screenshots of Everfrost I had that I adore so much. The zone is just so fantastic since the revamp. I’m excited to see what changes with Lavastorm once that one is completed. I always thought it was a shame that the original Shattered Lands was not used as much as it should be because it was simply out dated.

Ding! Obelisk of Blight, Crypt of Valdoon, and Mistmoore Castle

Last night started off with the defiler hitting level 77. Not too shabby since when I moved her to the new server she was only 74. Not exceptionally fast either, but I haven’t been trying to level her (and I’ve been gaining a whole lot of debt in the process through very fun means).  There were the usual culprits on in guild, trusty shadowknight and crazy conjuror, so we headed to Unrest to lay waste to the zone again. It was exceptionally fun though I doubt anyone who was with us would have thought so. We ran through the zone on multiple attempts angering everything we possibly could and then testing to see if we’d live. Most of the time, we did not. Especially when The Bugaboo would come charging at us. No idea how that happened (shifty eyes).

We did finish the zone though. Afterwards we headed to the Crypt of Valdoon in Loping Plains and took care of some vampires. The group had to split shortly after but it was still a lot of fun. Later on the shadowknight was headed to Castle Mistmoore to get his first mythical update. For some reason to even begin this quest he needed a page off of a floor in the room past the underwater tunnel (in the jail). Confusing? Yeah. We managed to duo our way up the back staircase from the Catacombs and after a few close calls, he got his update. I suggested duoing Mayong in Mistmoore Inner Sanctum which is the first ‘official’ update he needed, but we decided to stop there for now.

Once the shadowknight left to get some well deserved sleep I was still awake, and a few more people had logged on in guild. Another resident conjuror (who plays a bruiser as a main) asked if I’d be interested in trying to duo Obelisk of Blight in Lesser Faydark. Sure why not. The zone was slow (due to lack of dps) but it was fun. We had two deaths, and while nothing of any real value dropped, a good time was had by all. He also managed to ding 73, and I learned to appreciate tank pets all the more.

It’s interesting to watch how things change from server to server. On Najena, the daily shard mission that you pick up in the Moors of Ykesha is called the “DD” (daily double) where as on Kithicor, it’s called the MoTD (mission of the day). Some of the conversations never change no matter what server you’re on. The prices on Kithicor are insane and I’ve come to realize I’ve been spoiled on Najena where the population is a good deal bigger then it is on Kithicor. Not big differences, but these smaller ones that I’ve been taking note of.

I didn’t get any time to play my coercer or LoTRO – but I should have some time today. The coercer is sitting comfortably at level 61, and I’m eager to nudge her closer to 80.

Hope everyone has an amazing day.

LoTRO: Day 3

I did manage to get a little more time in LoTRO this weekend, which was nice. Not nearly as much time as I had wanted, but I’m still learning and meandering my way around. The quests I’d gotten were much the same they are in any ‘mainstream’ mmo, go kill x number of y creatures, or loot x number of y items, or go talk to random_npc_101. Things along those lines. While this may seem like a ‘grind’ and it’s not ‘new’ that’s fine by me. I enjoy these type of quests, I’m familiar with them. I don’t mind ‘grinds’ in the least bit. I can stand for hours in one location killing the same things over and over and it doesn’t bother me. I suppose it comes from camping items in EQ1, specifically those rogue clicky masks to add to my collections. I actually miss the way EQ1 groups would go, where instead of constantly roaming through a zone you’d find a ‘camp’ and park yourself and your group there for a while. In EQ2 you are never standing still, you’re constantly on the go, and moving. These camps are not around any more.

So I killed boars for meat, wolves, a spy. I gathered together some plants and that’s where I learned that you have a ‘quest’ bag where that sort of stuff gets dumped into, and not your inventory. WAR works much the same way, and I love that. In other games I’m always cranky when my bags get filled up with quest objects and I can’t actually loot anything any more and then I’m not sure what to delete.

I looted a few furs off of a wolf that says they’re able to be used in crafting though I haven’t the slightest idea how to start crafting, what it intails, what sort of crafting there is or if it’s even useful. I’m hoping that it gets explained to me some where along the way.

So far nothing has been overly difficult. I realize I’m still very low level (I’m level 5 now) but it’s been nice to play here and there and not feel overwhelmed. I have seen a few people running around, and I’m enjoying taking my time to learn the mechanics. Where as in EQ2 I tend to rush by everything because I’ve already done it quite a few times now.

I haven’t had any issues with the game running so far, I did turn down some sound aspects (npc’s talking is great, but their voice was booming out at me louder then anything else) and I’ve changed some of my key bindings. We’ll see how it goes the more I play! Hopefully I can meet up with some friends there and we’ll see how it goes.
