Behind the DoV Curve #EQ2

It’s amazing how easy it is to fall behind the curve in any given MMO when you take a little break from it. As mentioned previously, I had taken a break from EQ2 right before DoV hit – although to be honest I didn’t play that much Sentinel’s Fate, either.  It was getting hard for me to find inspiration within the game to keep me logging in and so in my true nomadic gamer fashion I wandered around to a few other games before eventually returning back to EQ2. One of my major issues has always been the number of alts I have. It’s incredibly difficult to concentrate on playing one character when you have 10 of them at max level and are not shy about volunteering whoever is required to get the job done. Sure, I have my favorites, but none of them are anywhere near the new cap of 300 aa, and I don’t even have any of them at 250 aa at this point in time. I need to work on that.

Of course after deciding to focus on my coercer (after all, I have 3 level 90 enchanters, two of them coercers, I obviously enjoy playing them) my group for the evening already contained one so I switched off to my troubador. Who then proceeded to get so many upgrades I lost count. The group consisted of Ultann (guild mate, Shadowknight), Ibeogur (another guild mate, berserker), and then three friends of Ultann’s, a wizard, inquisitor, and the coercer. We started out in Tower of Frozen Shadow: Shadowed corridors, and then moved to Umbral Halls, an finished off with Haunt of Syl’Tor. The zones are marked on eq2i as being ‘easy to moderate’ and they were. We had a little difficulty with the final boss of the last zone, but the group was amazing and didn’t wipe at all. Of course, myself and Ibeogur were completely new to DoV in general, and everything was an upgrade. We felt more like charity cases being pulled along then anything else – especially after I saw the parses that had everyone well above where I was. Granted, my coercer only has 175 aa at this point in time, but it was still really discouraging.

It will take me some time (and a lot of focusing and dedication) to get my characters where I think they ‘should’ be – but it gives me a goal to work towards and that’s always a great motivational tool. I also happened to pick up a few bits and pieces for my defiler, and at least the troubador is wearing some nice gear now. The rest of my evening was spent trying to decide if I wanted to 1. betray to dirge. and 2. switch from playing the coercer to the troubador (which is something I always end up debating when I switch characters, that’s why I have so many ‘mains’). I haven’t come to a conclusion yet, I suppose we’ll just have to see what this week brings.

Happy gaming, no matter where you find yourself! If you happen to be playing EQ2 (or EQ2X) you can say hello with a /tell antonia_bayle.name   I am typically on stargrace (defiler), although you can also find me there as minxes (the coercer), and goudia (my troubador), arysh (the warden), and a handful of other characters. If you happen to need an extra for a group be sure to look me up!

As a side note, the festival of unity starts next week – and I couldn’t be more excited! This will be the 5th year (I believe) that the festival has run, and I’ve had the pleasure of attending every year so far. If you’ve ever wanted to check out an amazing player run festival, this is the one for you.

A Bit of Public Quest Luck #EQ2

My coercer (one of three level 90 enchanters that I have) is pretty behind in aa. I’ve neglected a few of my characters over the years, leveling them up and then barely playing them. Yesterday I was in the mood to play her so I spent some time hanging out with the guild while we did a few older dungeons as a trio, and then headed off to a PQ (public quest) or two to try to get myself some upgrades. It was a good thing I did, too. I ended up winning the breast plate from the very first PQ I did (the fabled one) and it was an enormous upgrade. I browsed the broker and picked up a few pieces of gear that were relatively cheap (a plat or two here and there) and by the time my day was done I’d gone from having 16,000 hp to some where upwards of 22,000 which is still relatively low but much better then I was at. I also managed to get my critical mitigation to 70%, and I need that stat much higher as well but again it’s a start.

The guild trio’d a few Sentinel’s Fate zones, library and research halls, it was good for coin and transmutables. I was concerned that we wouldn’t be able to trio research halls, but we did just fine. I played the coercer, and was joined by Ibeogur (berserker) and Noc (inquisitor). We had a good time, and it felt nice to be playing again.

It’s been a little while since I’ve devoted any serious time to EQ2, and I don’t have the faintest idea what dungeons are like in DoV. In fact I’ve barely done anything at all in DoV, aside from working on the flying mount quests and a few crafting quests here and there. I’m excited to get back into things – and lets not forget that the Festival of Unity starts very soon on the Antonia Bayle server. I’ve gone every year since they’ve hosted it, and this year will be no different. It’s one of the largest player run events in EQ2, and if you haven’t checked it out before I highly recommend it.

Happy gaming, no matter where you find yourself!

Weekly Trip to Jita #EVEOnline

Ah, Jita. 15 jumps away from headquarters, and well out of the way of my regular travel paths. I head there once a week to sell goods from PI as well as my supply of manufactured bits. I’m always astounded by the number of people who are there no matter what time of day I happen to show up, and of course public channels are filled with everything from scams to sales of every shape and size. Jita is the major trade hub in EVE and represents a city just as much as any other game has. I fly all of the way out there because it’s where I typically get the best prices for my goods. I could stay in my neck of the woods and visit Dodixie but the prices there are slightly under what I get in Jita making the 30 jump round trip worth it.

I loaded my Orca up to make the trip, because it has the ability to hold the most stuff. I’ve taken my Dominix out for a spin or two but nothing heavy until I can get it fit properly (and yes, pkudude99 the dominix is a very small ship compared to – well, compared to everything really, especially compared to the orca). As soon as I get a little more training done I’ll upgrade some pieces on my current fit and start working on gathering faction again. I’d like to be able to work with another R&D agent, and raise my standings with those I am already working with. Earning more RP is always a good thing.

PI seems to be moving along nicely. Coolant is selling well (it’s used in a number of things including fuel for POS) and I’ve been making a few other materials to sell. It would be nice if I were making enough ISK to purchase some PLEX to cover my subscription, but in order for that to happen I’d have to be playing EVE full time – which I’m not. In fact I don’t really play any one game ‘full time’ as it were.

I’ve got (at the time of this post) 1 day and 12 hours left on my small hybrid turret V and that will make the 23rd skill I’ve got at skill level V. I’m nearing the 15,000,000 SP mark, which is pretty neat. I’ll have to upgrade my clone soon, as my limit is 15,700,000 SP. Next after small hybrid turrets it’s time to work on small blaster specialization, which will take a little while. Then I’m moving on to heavy drone operation. The list of skills one can work on in EVE is never ending – which is something I really like. In fact I really like the whole “no levels to gain” aspect of the game, and the fact that you don’t need to be any particular level to do any ‘sphere’ within the game. Doing the tutorials is often enough to get started although it does help to have friends who can help you out with ships and supplies.

A brief little blurb about DUST which I saw some video on at E3 – I’m excited about it. No, not because I’m a big FPS fan, but because of the implications that come with having a game that interacts with EVE – I’m assuming (because I honestly don’t know many details yet besides the video that I saw) that I will be able to craft and create supplies that those people playing DUST will be able to use (ie: guns, ground vehicles, etc) and that will mean a lot of extra cash for me. I’m excited about it. I don’t know how else the two games will interact with one another, but I think it will be quite neat. I know there are a lot of people who are upset that it’s a PS3 exclusive, but CCP knows their company and their games pretty well. If it’s a PS3 exclusive, I’m betting they have their reasons for it and yes, I do own a PS3 so chances are even though I’m not exactly a FPS fan (at all) I will probably give it a try.

Happy gaming, no matter where you find yourself!

Still Questing #Rift

The cleric is still making her way through the snow covered Iron Peaks, and I managed to ding 46 last night, and part way through today. I spent some time in Stillmoor, but the method of leveling via quest grinding feels the same to me no matter what zone I’m in. I visit a camp, grab all the quests, head of to their various locations, kill/loot/explore whatever they sent me to seek out, return, and then rinse and repeat. Some times I wonder why these NPC wouldn’t just give me all of their quests that send me to ABC location in one fell swoop, instead of making me hike all of the way back out there. Again.

The latest round of quests all involve exploring these massive caverns, and taking apart various secret ceremonies and gatherings that have been going on inside. Problem is I have already been inside these giant caves for other reasons, and so they’re sending me back – again. Why couldn’t I have taken care of the issue the last time I was there! Unless of course I had to wait a little while because no one was home or they were on break, out for lunch, etc.

The guild is quite happy that I’m closing in on 50, and even happier that I’ve spoken up about wanting to heal. I’m looking forward to trying some T1 and then eventually T2. Thankfully healers get off pretty easily, the only stat they’re required to obtain is wisdom, which I have in spades.

Tiny pet peeve – even though I wear chain, and technically I can wear cloth and leather (in specific the armor sold by vendors around cities) my appearance armor can only be chain. If I can wear cloth in my regular slots (as well as leather) wouldn’t it make sense that I could also wear it in my appearance slot? Apparently this is not the case, which I learned the hard way after spending money on a nice looking set of leather.

I managed to participate in an invasion in Stillmoor yesterday, and right afterward a crafting rift – even managed to earn myself another artificer plaque. I was hoping to get a minor catalyst, but hey it’s better then nothing at all. The dailies I’ve been doing in Meridian have been a bit stingy with their plaques as of late and the daily crafting quests I complete never reward me anything special aside from a handful of common supplies and the rare extra craft component (like the ones you use to increase specific stats on a piece of gear). It’s probably just my bad luck, as I’m constantly mentioning that if I didn’t have bad luck, I’d simply have no luck at all.

When I don’t feel like quest grinding I spend most of my time out exploring. Looking for cairns, shinies, and harvesting. You kill enough creatures who are in your way (and participate in the odd rift here and there) that it’s profitable and a nice relaxing break from playing errand girl (or boy) for the NPC’s. I haven’t spent any more time in dungeons yet, but that’s always an option too if I feel like using the LFD tool. I imagine I’ll hit level 50 some time this weekend, and if not then (it depends on whether or not I’m headed out Friday to the Morrisburg Medieval Festival) it should happen shortly after.

Happy gaming, no matter where you find yourself!
