Epic

Riftseekers, Epics, and FUN!

Tomorrow it will have been a week since I’ve started playing EQ again. In that short amount of time, so much has gone on and it’s been a huge rush, I’ve had so much fun. If you had of told me a week ago I’d be playing EQ, I’d have a new character on a new server who would complete her 1.5 epic – I’d have probably laughed. Ok, there’s no ‘probably’ about it. I would have laughed. Yesterday was spent completing the awesome staff that Minxes is sporting in the screen shot. The quest rewarded me with 5aa as well as the title that she’s sporting too, which was all pretty impressive to me. The quest was relatively easy although I’m sure it was difficult when it first came out. My trio handled everything beautiful, and then once we’d completed the final raid mob in Nobels Causeway, we hunted around for other named to defeat in the hopes of obtaining a few runes I could turn in for my 66-70 spells and it went relatively well. I managed to pick up my new level 67 pet, which is always a good thing. Necromancers work through dots, and using the level 30 ones I had were doing pretty much nothing. That’s alright though, it will come with time.

The necromancer also dinged level 70 – as did my enchanter which was a huge milestone for me. I switched over to aa for a bit as we galavanted around Plane of Disease, and when all was said and done obtained another 12aa and put it into pet hold and pet focus. Two aa that come in handy as my group is wandering. I need to get pet affinity so that my wraith can get buffs easier when I hang out in the guild lobby, as well as a few more aa and then I can concentrate on upping my dots and all that goodness. There are so many choices now as far as paths to go, I’m floundering a bit. Since I’m not a raid character (nor do I have any intentions of being) I’m sure I’ll do just fine. The enchanter on the other hand is working on getting salvage so that when she’s crafting she doesn’t destroy the items quite so often.

After obtaining my epic 1.5 I was excited, and in a great mood, we headed to Muramite Proving Grounds (may have spelled that wrong) and from there, Riftseekers Torrent. I’ve never been to RS before, and it was quite an experience. The zone is beautiful, with a fire and ice side. We made our way through both sides. Both MPG and RS were completely empty – if it’s not a hot zone you’ll find a lot of things empty. Wall of Slaughter did have some folks wandering around as we made our way through, one of them graciously rez’d Ninga who had quite the train chasing him.

A /hug and /wave to Acemob who poked me on Xfire yesterday, was plesant to talk to him. Just as a reminder, I can be found on Xfire, and email, and you can follow me on twitter as well if you’re interested in chattering. I love to meet new people.

There is some talk tonight of getting my 2.0 completed, an old friend of Ninga and Ultann is apparently going to be in game. I’ve never met them before, but I’ve heard the boys talk about them a few times. The 2.0 is something I haven’t even thought of getting, ever. To the left is a screen shot of my new shield that I’m also waiting to wear, a gift from Ultann. He got it from Blackburrow when they had it revamped for Seeds of Destruction just a few months ago. I need 60% more experience before I can wear it, but I’m excited! New toys are always a lot of fun in game.

Short term goals are to get a few more levels (if possible) while gaining aa. I’m still really far behind the loop, but not too concerned as I’m having a blast playing and everyone I’ve spoken to has been absolutely amazing. It’s also FRIDAY which is fantastic. I hope everyone else has an amazing day, no matter your game of choice!

See you in Norrath!

Everyone into the Pool

Screen shot is myself and three guild mates splashing around in a froglok pool that I added to the guild hall yesterday. The kerran is Craw, halfling is Egon, and the mouse is Wpus with his best friend Smiley watching from the back. Center is my little defiler who managed to ding 78 last night – and – brought her Tupta faction high enough to purchase the recipe book that allowed me to craft such a fancy little pool. I really do love those craft books.

Just so people don’t think I’ve forgotten, I do still have big news in the works. Town Crier even mentioned it which surprised me (and flustered me even more). I haven’t wanted to release too many details yet in case I jinx it and it doesn’t end up working out. I should find out the remainder of the details either today or tomorrow – the suspense has been causing many a restless night and inane ramblings to my close friends to say the least.

Wpus wanted to work on his conjuror epic a little bit last night and had very little left to go. I am always eager to get the group killed help out so off we headed as a duo to Sebilis. We actually made it quite far in our ‘barely a group’ group and when Craw (bruiser) had some spare time he came to help as well. The update was from researchers, though we did try the dreadmages in the blacksmith area first. Update obtained, that was the end of my evening.

I’ve been thinking a lot about what a wonderful group of friends I have in game. How understanding they can be, how they listen (and how I hope they can say the same about me) and the entire support network. I’m so thankful every day that I have been given the opportunities in my life that I have, and I really appreciate what everyone has done for me.

I do have two smaller projects on the go (or just starting off I suppose) that I’ll probably write about here as time goes on. We’ll just have to see where they go!

See you in Norrath!

Crafting, Instances, and Betrayal?

Yesterday compromised of a little bit of everything. It was great. I can’t think of one particular thing that stood out aside from the three hour nap while I was loaded up on extra strength tylanol but that had absolutely nothing to do with gaming. I think.

The 70-79 channel was particularly rude for no obvious reason I could figure out. You would think that people would be feeling more festive towards one another, but it turns out that this is not exactly true. I did two tradeskill instances, bringing my tailor to level 64, and the alchemist to levle 65. Five more levels or so to go and then I’ll go back to grinding writs for my experience so that Nostalgia can get some levels instead of leveling them through the wonderful instances. Oracia got herself a rolling pin that dropped from the instance. In all the time I’ve done them I’ve never seen that item before. It has a 3% increase to tradeskill experience, I wonder if it stacks along with the other bonus’ in game. I’ve been saving up a lot of transmuted parts, so I’ll probably put a mass of those for sale before too long. I have far too many that I’ll never use.

I spent 100p yesterday on silicate loams. I know, why? Well. I’ve been thinking about betraying the dirge back to a troubador. I know I rarely play her, so why drop 100p? I doubt my reasoning will make sense to anyone other then myself. I changed her to a dirge thinking to myself ‘well, if I’m not going to raid with my bard, why not play something that has more group utility’. Hate transfer, rez, heals, etc. Turns out there are a billion dirges on the server right now and I don’t play her as a dirge, either. So why not go back to troub if I’m not playing and then maybe I at least have a chance at wiggling in on some raids. I have both of my epics for troub and dirge, and if I were ever to raid with her I could complete both mythicals at the same time, heh. Sort of funny (and sad).

Aside from the crafting and spending much money, I did an instance or two. The VERY nice charm item above came from – you guessed it, The Crucible. An instance I’ve done so many times now I could sleep walk my way through it. The quest related to the zone yesterday also required no killing, just some clicking, so I ran my alts through and got them all their void shards. Later on in the evening Hellsong needed an update for chapter five (the final zone it sends you to) and off we went. In The Obelisk of Ahkzul (which is where we were) there is a named who drops two chests. Second last named. The first chest holds a legendary of some type, and the second one holds between 10-20 plat.

We got 12 plat from the chest and some change, which was fantastic. The zone is quick and easy and Hellsong got his update just fine.

It was starting to get late but I wasn’t tired yet, so I stayed up and did some of the Frostfell quests with Goudia. Even if I don’t decide to betray her, I have a paladin and a berzerker and a swashbuckler who could all make use of the loams eventually. I ran the Icy Keep instance a few times amassing tokens to purchase the charm item that everyone is talking about. Still lamenting over the fact that there’s no healer version.

All in all, a really nice weekend! Hope everyone else had a great one too.

Into Chardok We Go

Yesterday was a great day for EQ2, and it wasn’t really because of anything in particular, but it was just one of those days. It started off with doing a tradeskill instance on Ellithia. Duo’ing with a carpenter, they each gained two levels which puts her at level 62. I haven’t even made any combines from the past 12 recipe books or so, there’s a lot of experience saved up if I want to use the supplies I have saved up. I’m so glad to have gotten through the dreaded sinking sands era without having to actually use any materials. From 70-80 I’m going to level up doing writs, no doubt the guild status will come in handy. Nostalgia hit 31 thanks to Kasul heading out on some pick up raids, he had a pretty good time. Anyhow, an hour later the instance was complete and we got a really nice chest drop. It had a legendary provisioner piece (which I won and gave to arysh). For once luck was on my side, and I won not only the legendary piece, but another manual (that puts Ellithia at owning two of those, which is great because she’s on my second account) as well as an extra Far seas token that was in the chest. She doesn’t have the faction to purchase anything yet, but she does have 10 tokens. If I had only done the solo quest on the first day when it gave 25,000 faction she’d be all set. I still don’t like doing the instances on level 80 crafters unless I have a full group.

A call came out early that evening from Azztec, a friend who used to play on Antonia Bayle but moved to Najena when his guild started going through some major issues. He’s a great player, and leveled up a templar not too long ago. He was working on his epic last night and needed the update in Chardok. I decided to tag along on Stargrace, who is still only level 78. I find it amusing that the online persona I use is one of my lowest level characters.

I died three times, one of those times was a wipe on the bridge. Someone managed to catch the attention of a golem who was standing off to the side and I got punted (and one shot) into the waters below. Being such low level (the encounters were orange to me) it was not exactly surprising. Stargrace ended the evening 66% into her level, maybe one of these days I’ll actually hit 80. Azztec got his update easily enough. Chardok is a fun zone, relatively empty these days with everyone doing TSO instances for their void shard bits. We first had to collect books upstairs and then pass them off to the NPC pictured above, who then opens and unlocks the doors for us to make our way to the library.

Earlier in the day I also wandered around Cazic Thul, three boxing. It’s not an event that occurs often because lets face it keeping control of one character can some times be hard enough, two is do-able. Three is just hectic. I had two accounts running on the PC, and a third on the laptop. My newly betrayed arasai (used to be a brigand, is now a swashbuckler) is now level 49, and lots of fun to play.

For some reason my computer is still having issues ever since TSO released. I find it amusing that I can play VG now on fairly high settings with no issue, but a few hours into EQ2 and to image to the left will happen. The entire computer will freeze for a good solid 30 seconds, and then everything will become distorted in some weird 2nd world way. Yesterday the wood in South Freeport changed into icons of death, patterns of bones, skulls, and chicken beaks. The NPC’s wore bright green clothing, and Shadowgeist (who typically is dressed in black) was sporting a bright shiny metallic garb. I already underclocked my video card and turned the fans on it up when I was having crashing issues in WAR and scenarios. This fixed the issue. I never used to have issues in EQ2 either, but since the day TSO went live, I’ve experienced it. It’s typically in TSO zones, most commonly the crafting ones. Yesterdays happened to be in CT though. I get no other errors or messages from my computer along with it, just this oddly scary version of EQ2. My text also messes up along with all spell icons so it typically always requires me to restart my computer, of course not without taking a few screen shots of the changes to post here (or send to friends) while I giggle and wonder what exactly is going on. Stargrace pictured in the 2nd shot looks like she’s been coated with a nice layer of some sort of acid. Anyone else experiencing this? I haven’t bothered looking at the forums because when it comes to technical issues everyone seems to experience something slightly different and the solution that works for one doesn’t mean it will work for everyone.

A few other events took place yesterday, I’ll write about those a little later today.
