[Casual Gold Making] Fishing Update

A few more hours of fishing down, and the GPH has been fairly steady, 2 hours of fishing gives approximately 10,000-12,000 gold depending on when you sell. Here’s the first post about fishing I posted yesterday if you’re interested in my set up. Keep in mind I am not optimizing when I sell the fish, obviously when there are weekly quests up and when raids are happening the price does increase. I’m using fishingbuddy (addon) to track my fishing, the grey numbers are prior attempts, the white ones are the current session. The price of fish also tends to ebb and flow depending on how many bots are active. You can always tell when Blizzard has done a ban wave. The price of recipes is abysmal on my server, but I keep hoping that something of value drops. Still, it DOES add up, and it’s an incredibly casual way of making some gold. If you’ve already completed your world quests, tying in a little bit of fishing MIGHT be enough to get you that token.

Next week we’ll take a look at fishing in Shadowlands – in specific, we’re going to go after the Strange Goop item (it’s required for a mount) and see what the GPH looks like for that.

As always, happy gaming, no matter where you find yourself!

[Casual Gold Making] How Much GPH is Dragonflight Fishing?

It’s time for a new challenge! Thanks to inspiration from this reddit post, along with talking to a fellow gold maker CanadiaTV, (be sure to check him out) I decided to see how much gold you can casually make from fishing – starting with Dragonflight. I decided NOT to min/max this activity, so I have NOT taken everything from the reddit post into account. I’m sure you can up that gph slightly by min/maxing it. Below is the gear I’m sporting.

  1. Khaz’gorite Fisherfriend (rk4) enchanted with + Perception
  2. Master’s Wildercloth Fishing Cap
  3. +5 fishing gloves

I am also using a lure for Islefin Dorado.

I’m using the addon ‘Fishingbuddy’ to track what I catch. I’ve been fishing by the Dragonscale Basecamp because it has the LEAST amount of ‘extra’ stuff in the fishing table. Each hour I cast between 210-250 times, so for the purpose of this post, we’ll say I’ve been fishing off and on for approximately 15 hours (3898 casts so far). I do about 2h of fishing every 2 or 3 days, Moving forward I’ll post statistics for every 2h of fishing, just to keep things neat / tidy.

In 15h my total gold earned is roughly 94,162g which puts GPH at around 6,277g – this could be SLIGHTLY higher / lower if recipes are selling well on your servers, on mine I haven’t gotten any ‘good’ recipes of note in 15 hours of fishing. It’s also important to note that you should be selling when islefin dorado is in demand – that means from the weekly quest in Emerald Dream, as well as when raiders are looking for the fish. It’s not fantastic GPH, but it is pretty relaxing, requires almost zero brain power, and can be good to do if you’re watching TV or if you’re like me and sometimes have limited mobility.

Gone Fishing – In Telon

I spent the afternoon fishing in Telon (Tanvu to be specific) and quickly lost track of time. Hanging on the wall behind Faydai is her very first Kelp Bass, which I was able to mount to my wall in my home. How awesome! I figured fishing out a little better this time compared to when I was playing on test. I now know that when the ‘hit a combo’ button comes up you have to hit four key combinations before the fish moves again. I also learned I’m not good at learning their ‘moves’ or doing combos. Fish have levels and you have to work down their hit points by following their moves. If they do combos that you can’t counter they win and they’ll eventually get away. Watching them at max health as you try to mash buttons is frustrating but when you finally land one, it’s great.

Leveling up is slow. I spent a few hours fishing and only reached a skill of 5. Whether that’s because I just suck, or because I need to be fishing some place else I’m not quite sure.

It was a LOT of fun though. I also ran around Telon grabbing Christmas presents for house decorations. My lonely tree has had no gifts under it for far too long.

Next on my list? Well I have to build a boat of course, so I can take friends fishing with me out on the open water. I’m excited about it, not to mention the fact that carpenters make some pretty nice house items, and my home has looked quite bare for the past two years.

Randolph is back as well, I dug mine out from the bank and took a brief flight over Tanvu before I settled in for some fishing.

Doesn’t that lookbetter?!
