EQ2_000226I’ve seen a lot of people having issues with the new AA windows ever since SOE changed them, so I thought I’d explain how they now work. SOE gave us the ability to have and load multiple set ups, via the drop down on the right hand side (where you see (personal) Existing). This is great for people who like to keep a solo spec, a tank spec, and maybe different crafting specs. Especially with the addition of refining, experimenting, and mass production.

With the revamp also came the ability to spend those points BEFORE you earn them taking away the need to spend them as you obtain them. To do this you’re going to want to get OUT of view mode, and go into build mode. See that button on the bottom right hand side beside the commit button? Click that, it should be in build mode.

While in build mode the order you spend your points in every tree is the order that you will assign them as you earn them. Make a mistake and want to go back a few steps? Click on the spent points that are shown on the far right hand side column. It will ask you if you’re sure you want to slide back to whatever point in spending you’ve clicked on.

You CAN still also spend points the old fashioned way, as you earn them, by remaining in VIEW mode, and just clicking points in the tree as you earn them. If you want to swap out specs, click the commit button while you have the tree you want selected (from the top right menu).

That’s all there is to it.

A few things to keep in mind. Remember, just because you have spent all of your points does not mean that you’ll gain the abilities to all of the spent points right away! You still need to EARN those points and then they will unlock and be placed in the ability or spell section of your skill book, and you must commit the chosen tree in order to do that after spending them.

Any questions or comments? Feel free to ask and I’ll do my best. As always, happy gaming, no matter where you find yourself.

  1. Very helpful ! They’ve done away with the whole idea of resets, so it seems. I don’t expect to change them around much, but it’s good to know you could.

  2. I am one of those that were horribly confused by the changes to the AA window. But after I got my head around it I found it to be a lot more flexible and convenient than the old one.

I didn’t know you could preset your AA trees and have the points be automatically spent as you leveled up though. Thanks for that tip! :)
