A Return to BDO – Where do I start?!

It has been about 2 years since I last played BDO, and while they’re celebrating their 8th year right now, I decided I had enough free time to squeeze in a little game play – except I have absolutely NO IDEA what I am doing. A lot has changed in those two years.

What I did manage to learn is that seasons never end, so you can pick up a seasonal character any time you want, and I also learned about this “new” (to me) tool bag, that allows me to put my gathering tools in a bag I can equip to alternate tools instead of constantly switching. I followed the guide by GrumpyGreen (thank goodness they still write guides, I loved their stuff before and I still love it) and finished it easily enough. That freed up a bunch of inventory space which I was VERY happy about. Inventory management is still a nightmare, maybe even more so now because I have so many items that I simply don’t know what to do with and I don’t know what they’re used for.

I also found out I had components to create a dream horse! What! I have never owned one before, having never really dedicated the time towards breeding horses (though I do have a nice stable of my favourites) and I have no idea when they gave this out, or why I had it. I decided to go with Pegasus, female, and I named her Fluttershy, of course.

What am I going to do next? I’d like to get my shai to 61 (she’s 60 at the moment), and then work on cleaning out my inventory, which is probably one of my favourite silly things to do. I am not sure if I want to create another seasonal character (I’ve done it a few times in the past) but I might ‘just because’. Eventually I’d love to clear out some of the quests I’ve been carrying around (for years) and try to learn what else has changed since I’ve been away. It feels nice to be back! I won’t be giving up WoW any time soon, but BDO can be played (well, life skills at least) fairly passively, one of the reasons I love it. There’s room for both in my day to day, hopefully!

As always, happy gaming, no matter where you find yourself!

Deep Dive: How Much GPH are DF World Quests

World quests seem to be mostly overlooked this expansion, but I personally felt they can reward people nicely if you’re just starting out and need some guaranteed gold as capitol. I wanted to find out approximately how much gph the DF world quests rewarded, so this is how I went about it. Ideally, you would have at least 5-8 level 70 characters to do this with (you could do all 4 characters in one day, or spread them out so it was one character each day).

I started with a level 70 retribution paladin, with an ilevel of 445 which is pretty low for this season. I’m using a few addons, including Zygor, which will let you create a list of world quests by queuing them, and then give you directions on how to get to each one quickly and optimally. World Quest Tracker is another nice one. I’m also using LootAppraiser to track the time & any loot I pick up (LA requires TSM to function) and I’m using FasterLoot (does what it says). I’m sure there are other ways to optimize this method of making gold, such as wearing speed gear, using food/potions, etc. I decided to keep it pretty simple. The second character I did this on is my main, a 70 DH with 487 ilevel and all of the travel portals unlocked.

Keep in mind world quests are now on a bi-weekly schedule. For NA they re-set on Tuesday and Friday. This GPH is for the Friday set this week (March 4). I decided to skip the pet stuff and save it for another time even though getting pet charms IS a nice way to make gold. For this experiment I’m focusing on raw gold only. I’m also including the dragon riding races, as they give pouches with gold.

It took me 27m to run through the gold / race quests – but I also realized this character doesn’t have the DF portal system unlocked, so a lot of time was spent traveling. You can absolutely cut down time by unlocking the travel system. In that time, I earned 7,065g (one of the races I did was in the dreamsurge zone, and it didn’t reward coin but instead rewarded currency, so that one was a bit of a time waster). I also ended up looting a shield that sells for a bit of gold, and some vendor trash. The 70 DH managed to complete these in 20 minutes, but for the purpose of this post I’m just rounding it up to 30m.

For a lot of people, 7k in 30 minutes might not be worth it – and that’s OK. If you’re just starting out in your gold making adventures, it might be a nice way to get your nest egg started, especially if you have multiple level 70s to do this on. If you spent one hour a day doing these world quests, that would equate to roughly 98,910g a week – and it could potentially be more if you optimized your routes or got easier quests (I had a lot of annoying quests, like the fishing one where you have to haul fish up on to the land from lava). The more characters you have, the better. It’s absolutely more than enough to afford a token a month – so long as you have multiple level 70 characters (you need at least 5 characters). If you only have one, this is not the method for you, as these quests only reset twice a week.

Dungeon Dive: 100 Runs of Sunwell Plateau (91-100)

I sort of forgot that I never finished this series, so here’s the last 10 runs of Sunwell Plateau, finally! This run only gave a handful of desired items, one was a purple helmet, and a low value recipe. Keep in mind that I’m doing this on a high population server, so your gold values and experience may differ from mine. I’m using a level 61 speed geared druid, and a handful of addons like TSM, LootAppraiser, MonkeySpeed, Dejunk, and FasterLoot.

  • Total approx gold earned (runs 1-100): 1,197,120g
  • Actual amount of gold earned to date: 200,250g
  • Actual amount of GPH: 40,050g
  • Value of items still listed on the AH: 15,522g

You can also read through the rest of the series to see what I earned on each run, but all in all, I’m pretty happy with the results. It’s not the best GPH, but it was a nice way to spend a little time, and maybe RNG will favour you more than it did me.

Happy gold making!

Weekly Wrap Up [Feb25-Mar2]

It was a fairly productive week when it came to making gold – but I also ended up spending a fair amount on some recipes (I’m currently working on finishing off my profession recipes, more on that at a later date). My top sellers were back to recipes, a handful of pets, and a few transmog. I also re-stocked my crafted transmog, something I had been slacking on for a few weeks (life, what can I say).

Sales were lower than usual, but I also spent a lot of time restocking and doing general inventory management. I keep a record of sales each month, and where they happen. If a server doesn’t perform very well, I stop selling there and move on. I give the server 3 months so I can see a better average, and typically if the gains are not at least a million (each month), I’ll drop it from the list. There’s a few reasons I do this but it mostly comes down to time. I have other servers that perform very well, and the items I’m selling would be better suited to those servers or just waiting in the bank for restock day instead of me wasting the time it takes to post. I’m sure people have different methods of doing all of this, but that’s what works for me.

As always, happy gaming, no matter where you find yourself!

Weekly Wrap Up [Feb18-Feb24]

Uh, WHAT happened this week?! That’s an insane looking graph up above. I could hardly believe it. It seems like even though we’re at a bit of a lull with the season right now, and waiting for the next thing to come along – all of the collectors came out of the woodwork.

Sales this week were almost all exclusively high priced transmog. A good handful of crafted pieces also sold, and a bunch of NLA (no longer available) items. The usual items like Blackrock Bulwark, The Glazer, and Firekin were pretty high up on the list. I also saw a few unusual items sell, like a handful of Haunted Mementos, and Baron Charr’s Sceptre (wasn’t expecting that one). I also continued to work on my own recipe collection, I’m narrowing in on the handful left that I need. One goes for approx 2 million on NA (LW recipe where the vendor is no longer available) and I haven’t decided if I’m going to splurge and get it yet or not.

As always, happy gaming, no matter where you find yourself!
