Treasure Hunts

Treasure hunts are a relatively new (to me) activity. When your character is doing activities like farming, mining, and praying, there’s a small chance on a rare roll that you’ll stumble across a sealed container that contains a treasure map. It seems completely random, as does the quality of map that you’ll find. So far I’ve discovered close to 10 of these treasure maps, from the very simple easy ones to the more complicated insane ones.

On the more complicated end of things, there were five stages to the map and each one spawned a handful of ‘hidden’ creatures that ambushed me. NOT FUN. I do not have the best gear in Wurm Online, and these maps were HARD. The end result was some semi precious items, three sleep powder, and me licking my wounds a bit.

I have a lot of fun doing the easier maps, but they don’t always reward the best things. I’d consider them average – for me and the length of time it takes to complete them, I’m OK with that. They usually always include one sleep powder, a gem, and something like a 50ql pelt. One time I got a crab statue and that was pretty neat. We’ve had low quality chests reward rare bone fragments, so at least the low chests are not completely useless. In fact it could probably stand to use a bit less RNG.

I tend to sell my higher quality maps, since the combat really frustrates me. They’re currently going for around 3s each, since they come with 3 sleep powder and that’s the going rate. My deed mate Moumix is fantastic at completing these adventures, but I am still personally getting used to them and learning how to read the maps properly and learning what hints mean. I’m sure it’ll just take me a bit of time and I’ll be a professional treasure hunter in no time.

As always, happy gaming, no matter where you find yourself!

Vynora – Finally 100!

Finally, after almost 10+ years my Vynora priest on Wurm Online has reached 100 faith!

This is not completely the fault of Wurm, but stems from a combination of things like the fact that getting anywhere with priests after 70 faith or so is practically impossible. The skill gains are so small from prayers that it would take an insane number of years to reach 100. The only practical method is to join a sermon group and to do that for as long as you can tolerate.

Since the Impalong was taking place on Deliverance it was a good time to start. I arrived with 74 faith, and after doing around 5-6 sermons (one every 3 hours) for 10 days, I reached 100. Why does this capped skill even matter? Well at 100 I can summon players – which is awesome. I can also cast Mindstealer (a weapon enchantment) on my own. I’ve also got a baby Fo priest working her way up the ranks, but I have no enthusiasm to grind my way to 100, I’ll be happy if she reaches 70 in the end (right now she’s hovering around the 45 faith mark). I also have a 100 faith unused priest over on the NFI servers, who I hope one day will be able to venture down to the SFI ones. I know there’s lots of controversy about allowing the two islands to merge, but I’d just like a one time transfer so I can play all of my characters together.

As always, happy gaming – no matter where you find yourself.

Deliverance Impalong – Final Day

Today was the last day of the Deliverance Easter Impalong and goodness what a fantastic time I had! I earned enough points to pick out a prize from the prize lot – and I walked away with a HoTS (Horde of the Summoned, a defunct PMK on PVP servers) wagon created by Gumbo. It even comes runed, which increases the capacity of what it can hold, and speeds it up. I haven’t owned a wagon on Wurm Online for quite some time, so I was incredibly happy to receive this one! A huge congratulations and thank you is in order for everyone who worked so hard for the events, and for those who won awesome prizes.

Some of my favourite parts of the impalong was Storage Wars (I hope that gold went to good use!), and the ‘Find the cheese’ game where you had to find a wheel of cheese in an entire room filled with barrels and other containers. It was a lot of fun.

The next impalong is on the Independence server in July, and you can bet I’ll be there.

As always, happy gaming, no matter where you find yourself!

Deliverance Impalong – Day 2

I had the most fun today! While I still don’t really get (or understand) Deal or No Deal, I happily worked on imping tools and listened to the events being ran. I also participated in a few guessing games that were set up (how many eggs will hatch, how many bacon can be made) in some little huts – and I even found the cheese in a game where you had to enter a room FULL of containers and (you guessed it) try to beat everyone else at finding the cheese. I had so much fun! I think I am up to around 2,000 points, maybe as much as 2900 if I get my riddle answers correct. This SHOULD put me in the running for some awesome prizes that we get to pick tomorrow.

I’ve made a list of what I’m interested in, but it will depend on how many people pick ahead of me. My first choice is probably some Pandemonium flags/banners – but I also saw them for sale, so I might go with a wagon choice instead. We’ll just have to see!

I love the work and dedication people have put into making this a successful impalong. With any luck (and a whole lot of people) my priest will actually reach 100 faith before too long. I do have 100 faith Libila priest over on the NFI servers, but this will be my first ever SFI priest at 100. Not only does that mean she can cast her ‘major’ spell (mind stealer) but it also means she gains the ability to summon others, which is incredibly handy.

Overall? I can’t wait for tomorrow, and I’m reminded once again about all of the things I love when it comes to this magical game. As always, happy gaming, no matter where you find yourself!

Easter Impalong – Day 1

One of the most amazing things that happens in Wurm Online has nothing to do with anything in game and everything to do with the amazing community that has built up around it. An “impalong” is a community hosted event, typically on a large fancy deed, where players gather together for a variety of activities including but not limited to: Improving gear / weapons for others free of cost, casting spells free of cost on said armor / tools, playing games like Deal or No Deal, and just generally having a good time. They tend to be annual events held by various deeds at various times.

It just so happens that one of the large ones was being hosted on the Deliverance server during Easter weekend, so of course I wanted to take part.

They are as amazing as I remember, and the community just as special. I brought along three characters total, two that I planned on leaving in the temple area, and Stargrace (my main) to work on blacksmithing. I turned someone’s horseshoe rare, so that was pretty special. I also gained a lot of blacksmithing skill (I’m closing in on 75 now) and just had a good time listening to people gather around doing their thing.

Tomorrow there is a contest called Storage Wars that I am VERY interested in, and I can’t wait to take part.

Speaking of Easter, Wurm Online has a few other events going on. You can purchase a bunny backpack skin that is just adorable, and if you do some foraging you’ll be given a treasure to find an Easter Basket filled with a few goodies. I haven’t been back to my deed for a few days to do this yet, but it’s in the works.

Overall? I’m just having a great time, and these events remind me about what I love in this game. It’s most certainly the people who make it a special place.

As always, happy gaming, no matter where you find yourself!
