Rift

A Day of Dailies

I’m not going to sugar coat it, yes, I’m avoiding EQ2 at the moment. The latest game update has me so incredibly discouraged that instead of logging in I’ve been finding other things to do – oh, except I can’t actually log in because my guild hall is one of many affected by a bug that prevents anyone from entering / loading the hall. I already petitioned once to free my characters and then was met by the bug a second time later on in the weekend. Even if I wanted to play, I wouldn’t be able to. I’m hoping that with today’s patch more things get fixed, and as my sadness with GU61 dies down I’ll find the desire to play. In the mean time – Rift!

Yesterday I took the day to meander around and work on little odds and ends that had been collecting in my quest journal. I finished off the major chain in IPP, and then farmed Rifts for dragon tears and guild quest updates (as well as planarite, I’m trying to save up 25k). I did my daily PvP quests, DRR, daily crafting quests, daily IPP quests, and daily dragon tear quests. I purchased the rest of my PvP gear (the stuff I can wear at least, I’m only rank 2 so far) and I’m sporting a little over 400 valor although that doesn’t seem to stop players from killing me almost instantly in some cases. I spent the majority of my evening helping out with PvP Rifts in IPP, which was a lot of fun (despite the deaths). I also saved up enough dragon tears to purchase Gil, a cute little frog-like creature. I’m working on leveling up my mount and have another 15 levels to go which is not so bad.

I’m sad to see the half birthday event come to a close, it’s been nice to get bonus plaques while doing dungeons and the extra favor and other rewards sure have been nice. I didn’t get my mage to 30, but 27 is still a nice comfortable level for an alt. I hope everyone else had a great weekend, no matter where you spent it.

Happy gaming!

Bringing Out the Alts #RiftGame

I don’t have a lot of incentive to play alts in Rift because my cleric can quite literally ‘do it all’ when it comes to adventuring. The only reason I created one of each arch-type in the beginning was in order to have multiple crafters (although if I had it my way players would be able to choose as many crafting options as they want). With the 6 month birthday celebration in place there is also a 100% bonus to experience from kills, and so I’ve been playing my lower level characters to take advantage of it. My mage is now level 26, and is quite fun to play. She also happens to be a 300 apothecary, and has the ports to most of the major cities.

Thanks to a guild rally banner I also managed to find myself in Shimmersand at level 24, doing level 50 crafting rifts. I didn’t earn any plaques (blast it!) but I did get a nice selection of crafting materials. I purchased the recipe for black dye, and have been selling it on the broker for 7p a piece which is netting me some nice income on my lowbie mage. I think both my cleric and my mage have around 50p to their name now, which is no small amount for me. My rogue is still sitting at level 14 or so, I have no real desire to play that character and I’m not quite sure why. I did level her to a 300 outfitter, but I haven’t obtained the ports to the higher level cities yet, so I haven’t been doing her daily quests. Perhaps after a while I will.

I’ve been contemplating trying the guardian side of things, perhaps on another server. I haven’t made up my mind yet but Shadefallen and Faeblight both come to mind. I have characters there already, so we shall see I suppose.

I hope all my friends on the East Coast are keeping safe with the hurricane moving through. We’re getting wind and rain here in Ottawa but it’s more east then I am and will be hitting the Maritimes. As always, happy gaming no matter where you find yourself!

Happy 6 Month Birthday Rift #RiftGame

Ah, Port Scion. It’s a very neat messy warfront that I did for the first time yesterday. A confusing mass of bodies flying everywhere, plus mobs making it all the more fun. It seems that more often then not when it comes to pvp the groups I’m in are constantly being outdone by the guardians – but it’s still fun, and I still partake. Every so often I’ll be on the winning side of a match even if it doesn’t happen too often.

Today marks the beginning of Rifts 6 month anniversary festival. I’m happy for Trion, I think that in today’s volatile game market to be going so strong after six months is quite a feat. I can’t speak for all servers but mine is quite busy, there are players everywhere on both Guardian and Defiant sides of the fence, warfronts pop up frequently no matter what level I tend to queue at, and over all I feel a lot of ‘life’ in the game while playing.

Yesterday I started leveling up my mage, who is now 19. In most games I play I tend to want a ranged dps character as opposed to a melee type, and I’m already feeling that I may switch from cleric to mage if I get to level 50 on the new character. We’ll see how it goes though. This weekend I will no doubt be grinding T2 dungeons in hopes of extra plaques so that I can finish off my T2 gear set. I hope everyone else has a fantastic weekend, no matter what game they find themselves in!

As always, happy gaming!

Getting my PvP On (and Other Fun) #RiftGame

I’m still waiting for GU61 to go live in EQ2, so I’ve been spending a lot more time then normal in Rift. Their 6 month anniversary kicks off tomorrow and yesterday evening was filled with so much in-game goodness that I almost forgot that’s how games are supposed to be. To start things off I decided that I would drop mining and pick up a second ‘main’ craft instead of having two harvesting classes. I went with Runecrafting, because I tend to win purples in dungeons a lot that I have no use for. I’d like to be able to break those down into useful bits. I spent the evening working on the craft, and found myself at 300 with very little trouble. Now my cleric has 300 Artifice / 300 Foraging / 300 Runecrafting. It also means that I can gain a second lure weekly, and opening more crafting rifts is always a good thing. Speaking of which, those re-set today, and I’m looking forward to spending my day hunting down crafting materials.

The second half of my evening was spent doing world PvP – in specific PvP Rifts located in Stillmoor. I decided against going with a pvp specific spec, and have been using my duracell spec + pvp gear. I seem to be handling myself just fine in world PvP, in Warfronts it’s hit and miss. I picked up three pieces of Cavalier gear yesterday which is T1 PvP gear basically, giving me some valor in order to be a little more resistant to player attacks. I earned 25,000 lifetime favour, which was a nice feat for myself, and gathered a few more achievements. I had forgotten to do my DRR, but I did my daily PvP quests which were quite fun.

I’m enjoying the way faction (notoriety) works in Rift. There are a LOT of factions and each one has a number of merchants who want to sell you goods based on how well known you are to them. Some of the major ones include Icewatch – they sell a head adornment I’m trying to get. There is a room off of the crafting room that includes a handful of faction merchants for each rift type. They sell all sorts of things like recipes, lesser planar essences, and lures to open the DRR. Oh, and of course little cute furry companion pets.

While it’s still true that most of what there is to do in Rift involves killing and slaughtering something, I have found the game at 50 quite a bit more enjoyable then it was grinding to 50. It doesn’t exactly make sense, because technically it is still grinding (faction, dungeons, pvp) but it feels different, a lot more fun – and that’s what matters. Speaking of – I managed another T2 run last night, although I forget which dungeon it was. I believe it was Runic Descent. I didn’t get any upgrades but I won a purple dagger no one wanted (which I broke into bits via runecrafting) and I earned plaques which is always nice. I’m about half way towards my T2 gloves, with any luck I’ll have them by the end of this weekend. I only like doing one or two dungeons at a time before moving on to something else, so it’s a bit of a slow grind for me.

As always, happy gaming no matter where you find yourself!
