It’s Not Always Fair #MMORPG

wurm.20131029.0800As we all learn sooner or later, some times, things are just not fair. This carries over into the MMO world too and can sometimes be a harsh lesson.

Take Wurm Online, for example. A player was banned for cheating not too long ago. Typically this is a zero tolerance policy, if you’re banned for good that’s just the way it is. However, this particular player who was banned happens to be popular on YouTube, and brings new players into the game, so after a few months, they allowed the player back. Other players who were banned were not allowed back, and it was decided that the popularity of this one person was worth any backlash from the loyal player base that they may incur.

Fair? No, of course not.

On a lesser degree, there’s extra-life coming up. Some groups who are quite popular with social media are receiving extra attention from the games that they’ll be streaming, where the little guys who are not quite so popular, are left behind. Even though everyone is raising money for the same cause. This happens quite frequently. I’ve been running my blog for over 7 years now but it’s not a “news” site, it’s just me writing about my adventures in whatever game I happen to be playing. As such, I don’t typically qualify for contests and prizes to give away to readers. Maybe once upon a time, but things have changed as more and more news sites have been created.

Am I a little bitter? Yes, I don’t feel that it’s fair. So what can I do about this feeling I have? Well. The best thing to do (again, for me personally) is to move on and ignore it. Know that I’m doing the best that I can, and as always I’m not doing doing this for any special reason, I write because I love writing. Raising money for extra-life has been a trial in patience this year. I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who has donated and supported me, but it has been much more difficult than previous years of fundraising (this is my first year doing this particular charity, but I have raised money for NaNoWriMo in November and other events over the years). I understand that money is tight, but a small part of me wonders if it’s because with the popularity of Kickstarter and humblebundle, we now “expect” that a reward and prize comes with our “donations”.

Anyhow, just some rambling thoughts this morning – back to our regularly scheduled blog posts!

Raising Clay #WurmOnline

wurm.20130908.1954My deed on Pristine is incredibly peaceful. It is built along the bottom of a cliff, and in order to gain more ‘land’ I’ve been digging dirt off of the mountain and bringing it down below and filling in some of the shore. I had a few reasons for doing this, not only to increase the waterfront property but also to raise some clay that I had on deed but under water. It took a lot of dirt since I couldn’t use the ‘level’ feature, but eventually I managed to raise the tile out of the water, and I now have access to clay. I couldn’t be more pleased.

I also managed to raise my prospecting to 20 which allows me to use the analyze skill on rock shards. This is an incredibly useful feature, it will tell you what sort of ore is nearby under the ground. You can prospect outside on rock to see what lays within but once you’re inside the cave it gets harder. I was finally able to locate the iron I have on deed using this method, yay!

That means I’m basically all set up now. I still have plans for the deed of course, but the necessities are taken care of. I plan on leveling some of the mountain so I can build a house overlooking the water, and perhaps a tree farm for my boat building. I was hoping to purchase a bunch of dirt so I could raise some more tiles out of the water but so far no one has been interested in selling any even after my offer of 3s for delivery. There is still dirt up on the mountain side that I can clear and bring down below, so that’s probably what I will end up doing.

As always, happy gaming, no matter where you find yourself!

Building Up a Deed #WurmOnline

wurm.20130901.2329I haven’t been able to log into FFXIV this weekend, so I didn’t even try after the first day. Instead I spent most of my time in EverQuest and Wurm Online. As you can tell by the screenshot, my deed on the Pristine server is coming along very well. I managed to borrow some iron from a good friend of mine who does not live too far away, and with that, I made a large anvil and a few bits and bobs that I required. An altar so I could sacrifice all of the rares I’ve been getting, a forge, a food storage bin. I also managed to complete my first house. I cleared most of the dirt off of the side of the mountain in order to extend my waterfront area, and I’ve also almost managed to raise the clay out of the water that is on-deed. I’ll need more dirt to finish the rest.

I’m going to be working on leveling the mountain into a shelf so that I can put a house up there, as well as a small tree farm. This will take quite a bit of time, surface mining is a slow and difficult task, but it’s also very neat to be able to shape the world. I’ve been streaming some of my adventures on my twitch channel, so if you’re bored and want to take a peek you can find it over here. Wurm may not be that exciting to watch, but it certainly is pretty (and relaxing).

I’ve also got some plans for my deed over on Exodus, but I’ll talk about those another time. I hope everyone is enjoying their Monday, as always, happy gaming no matter where you find yourself!

What Are We Playing? #MMORPG

ScreenShot_00361I would really like to request a do-over for this week (and even last weekend). Instead of dwelling on all of the negativity that is currently all over my gaming streams lately, I’m going to just do a brief post on what I’m playing these days.

FFXIV – Usually in the morning and daytime hours, I’ve been trying to level up a White Mage. My little falafel is great entertainment. I really like the animation the characters do when they jump. I suppose it’s a bit silly of me, but I can not help but squee as I run around. You can find me on Diabolos as Blesse Reveur.

Wurm Online – I recently purchased a new deed on the Pristine server, and have been working on trying to find iron somewhere on my deed. No luck yet but as with everything in Wurm, I am patient. I also started a house, and have a little garden going. I’m hoping that as soon as I find iron things can start moving forward, I can’t wait to show off some before and after pictures. I also still own a deed on Exodus, I’ve been creating a farm there to tend, and I found a chicken which I named Henry (get it, hen? chicken?) who has been eating most of my grain (hence the farm).

The Sims 3 – My legacy family relocated to Isla Paradiso, and I’m having a lot of fun with the change of location. Ginger is now a teenager, and even got a part time job as a receptionist at a spa. Bob is still alive, it appears that my sims live well beyond what I had banked on.

Guild Wars 2 – I’ve taken a break from it this week because I needed something lower key, more relaxing. Rushing all over to do Clockwork Chaos was causing me some stress in game. I DID manage to work my armorer to 400 skill, it was one of three crafts that I did not have at 400 yet. The two remaining are weaponsmith and leatherworker. Those are next on my list. I also logged in for the one year anniversary reward. I instantly leveled up an alt to 20 and thought it was a nice gesture.

Vanguard – Yep, still playing Vanguard and still one of my favorite games. I’ve been taking things slow and working on diplomacy, which is very relaxing. Also one of my favorite things about Vanguard (and probably one of the least explored by the general population). I’ve also been crafting, now that my mineralogist is 55 it’s time to level up the next class. I’m not sure which one yet, I’ve got one of everything (of course I do). Suggestions?

So those are the games I’m playing, more often than not. I’ve taken a little break from Civilization V, but am still enjoying the game quite a bit. I just don’t have enough hours in a day!

What game do you find yourself playing these days? Let me know in comments!

Nomadic Shores – A Deed on Pristine #WurmOnline

wurm.20130826.0137One of my favorite things to do in Wurm Online is scope out new places to set up a home It’s almost like a bad habit, since it does cost money to set up a deed (you need deed forms, and they cost 10s) and you have to be premium. This weekend I was annoyed with the FFXIV down time (yes, after having JUST posted about how I was not annoyed) and I was feeling quite snarky, so I decided what I needed was some relaxation and absolutely no game is as relaxing for me as Wurm Online.

Blesse is my Pristine hub character. That means she can’t travel to the main servers, but can travel between Pristine and Release. I haven’t played her in a very long time, having a steady place already on Exodus, but I was feeling that wanderlust that comes every so often, especially with a map I’m not familiar with.

Blesse had already packed up all of her belongings into the rowboat that she has long ago, so it was just a matter of sailing around until I found a suitable location. This sounds easier than it really is. Most of the coast of Pristine is covered by sheer cliffs. The rest is occupied by other players. I didn’t HAVE to settle on the coast, but that is prime real estate.  I thought I had found a little outlook for a potential home but instead it ended up being a land covered with wolves and mountain lions. I can handle a few of those but the character is still quite new, so I wasn’t ready to take on more than one at a time. Plus I had nothing to heal myself with so I continued on sporting one medium wound that wouldn’t heal.

Eventually, I found it. The perfect spot. There were a small handful of unmoored boats gathered around a tiny little flat spot of land right against the mountainside. I sailed back to Blossom because I had not purchased that deed form I needed, and sailed back, eager to set down roots.

Nomadic Shores is the name of my new little abode. It’s small, which is exactly what I was looking for. Most of the deed is mountain so I can have an extensive mine. There’s iron and zinc in there, and I’m not sure what else. I rummaged around foraging and botanizing to get enough items to start a small farm. Planted some corn and wemp as well as cotton. Due to the location of the deed a horse is really not required, but I can always put one out in the field if I want. I’d like the house to be made of stone and that requires clay – which I actually have on-deed but it’s in the water so I’m looking to raise it out. I am not sure yet if I’ll make the house more than one level, but I think two levels may be nice. We’ll just have to see.

It feels refreshing to be building a nice little deed again in uncharted territory. I can’t wait to see what else I find (besides the greenish trolls that live behind me. I can hear someones spirit templar freaking out over them).
