Dungeons, Achievements, and Hot Zones – Oh My! #EQ2

Yesterday was spent working on my neglected templar, who managed to reach level 83. She was my first EQ2 character ever and thus holds a special place in my heart. I’ve been contemplating betraying her to an inquisitor because they’re the flavour of the month at the moment, but I would want to complete my enervated weapon first which I can’t do until 86. That way I don’t need to completely re-do the inquisitor mythical. The inquisitor possess one skill that no other healer gets, and it’s quite over powered. Their mythical allows them to group cure while moving, and it’s incredibly fast casting with an almost instant recast. This is incredibly valuable in raids and dungeons where players may be moving all over the place to avoid certain locations, as well as being bounced and thrown through the air. Not to mention they’ve got a very nice amount of DPS, and help all melee classes quite a bit. It was a relaxing run to get her to 83, and I’m looking forward to continuing on with her leveling as the mood strikes me.

Yesterday the hot zone was also Ascent, so my guild mates and I ran it twice, with various alts. A few fabled dropped each time, and my shadowknight managed to pick up a nice bow. The first time through I ran the instance on my swashbuckler who is doing quite well as far as gear goes, and then the second time I ran it on my defiler. Both times were nice and relaxing which is the great thing about going with guild groups, even if we did only have four people.

The rest of the evening was spent going on achievement runs, we (the guild mates and I) headed to Loping Plains and decided to do Evernight Abby, Mistmore Manor, and Ravenscale Repository for achievements. My swashbuckler had never been there before so I went from 211 aa to 217 with little trouble. I’ve finally started working on the heroic side of things, although I’ll need to reach 225 aa spent before I can work on the 2nd tier.

I know everyone is eagerly awaiting the beginning of Fan Faire to see what amazing news comes out of it, and I’ll try to post any big announcements here. In the mean time, happy gaming, no matter where you find yourself!

Dailies to Keep You Playing #EQ2

I’ve reached the point in the DoV expansion where I’m starting to get a lot of daily quests that are required for me to further my faction. Thurgadin and Ry’gorr in specific offer some really nice faction obtained adornments, and your regular quests will only get you so far. I’ve been doing each of the PQ once a day in order to obtain faction shards that I can turn in (it’s a total of 2k faction a day which is nothing to sneeze at) as well as the daily shard mission which is quite handy. I realize the need for “something” to lure players in on a daily basis, but I really dislike daily quests. I find them (duh) repetitive. It’s not the fact that they are daily quests or that they repeat each day since that’s sort of the point, but that there are so many of them and you need to complete them each, daily. So you’re not just doing one quest every single day, you’re doing 4-5 or even more. That’s where I get bored with it.

The other down side is my ‘lack of a main’ situation. The faction items are heirloom at least, which means I only need to work on it for one character – but – deciding which character to work the faction on is difficult when I’m switching between what ever mood I happen to be in for the day. It started with the defiler, switched to the dirge and the coercer for a short time and (for now) I’ve settled with the swashbuckler. We’ll see how long that lasts (I think I’ve made it a week at the time of this post).

Fan Faire is just around the corner, and I am eagerly expecting some news on the 25th class to be added. I’ve got one single character slot left, and I (along with every other player in game I’m pretty certain am impatiently waiting to see what we get. A lot of people are pulling for beastlords, but personally I’m not sure that we need a third pet class. We’ll just have to see! What do you think it will be?

Happy gaming, no matter where you find yourself!

Gaming MY Way #EQ2

Some times, my guild mates are just not interested in collecting a group of PUG in order to complete a dungeon, so for the fun of it we decide to head out in a trio and take on content that is meant to be done with a full group. Our first DoV instance this weekend ended up being Ascent, which (as it turns out) is incredibly easy to do in a trio consisting of a SK(or zerker, we did this zone twice), templar, and swashbuckler. We had no issues, and it was nice to gain gear for alts without having to worry about anyone besides guild mates rolling on it. We also decided to head to the zone after, Spire, and managed to get all the way to the snake boss (2nd last named) before calling it a night due to the hour. Sure, zones take a bit longer without an entire group but the atmosphere is always relaxed and friendly, which is something I really enjoy.

Take a different example, we decided to join a group that consisted of a SK (not a guild mate), a warlock, and then four guild mates. The zone was Tower of Frozen Shadow: SC – the easiest zone. The SK decided to parse our very first two encounters consisting of a bat and a skeleton, decided that 15k DPS (per person) was not enough, and left. Even though no one was paying attention to the entrance mobs and he never said it would be some sort of test as to whether or not we would continue. He then proceeded to LFG for the next hour in channels while we continued on – my swashbuckler tanked the zone and we decided to go as 5 instead of filling the 6th spot.

Ward of Elements was the next zone we decided to complete as a group of four – gathering another trophy for the guild hall. When that was completed (it took maybe 20 minutes, very quick) we headed to Munzok’s afterward and managed to defeat the first named before the 2nd one took us down (lack of mages meant we couldn’t take down the mage related add). It was still a great time even after the numerous wipes, and that was exactly how I wanted to spend my evening.

Happy 4th of July to all of my American readers and friends out there, I hope you have a fantastic weekend! No matter where you choose to spend it. Happy gaming!

Finishing Off the Coldain Prayer Shawl #EQ2

That’s right, after weeks of faction work I finally managed to gain 40,000 with the Forgemasters of Thurgadin. Even more excited then I was about the shawl was the fact that the recipes are heirloom, and I managed to pass them to my other 6 level 90 crafters. Of course the shawl is pretty nice too, and I owe a HUGE thank you to the husband and wife team who managed to make all of the combines for me, as well as to Shamah from guild who supplied the alchemist portion. It was hair-raising to do the final combine that required me to craft 5 items in 12 minutes and if I missed a reaction I would have died (literally) and had to start all over. Thankfully that did not happen, and I finished with 3 minutes to spare.

I had a commission for a combine shortly afterward, it used a gem and was a fabled combine using the Thurgadin recipes. Low and behold, Brell decided to bless me during the combine and so the recipient gained their rare gem back. I received a 2 plat tip which I was a little upset about considering Brell’s proc’d and their rare was worth 500+ plat on the Antonia Bayle server – but c’est la vie. Non-crafters rarely understand the amount of work (and coin) that goes into obtaining some of the quested rewards. For example the prayer shawl uses components from 9 crafters (which I tipped for, each piece), a rare ore, a bunch of fuel, etc. I could have decided not to wear the item and thus not proc on that combine, but what’s the point.

I’ll probably never see the item go off again, but it was still neat to witness. Now I just need to complete it on the other 5 crafters, and raise my three final crafters to 90 so that I have one on each of them. Also, the +25 to all stats is incredibly nice for future missions, especially the tinkering. I’ve got over +150 tinkering between the harvest cloak, the pack pony, the shawl, and various other pieces of gear which really comes in handy in order to raise the skill.

Happy gaming no matter where you find yourself!

Arr, I’m a Pirate! #EQ2

I’ve been busy questing through the Great Divide on my swashbuckler, and she managed to earn herself this really neat pirate outfit yesterday during one of her runs. Now I just need to complete my class hat (from the Kingdom of Sky quest chain) and the outfit will be complete. She also gained a gnomish pirate title which goes well with her swashbuckling pirate titles. Over all the ensemble is cute. Certainly not unique, but it is cute. I’m sitting at 188 aa, which is quite low for DoV but I’m getting there slowly. I managed to buy a really nice sword from the x2 raid dungeon that someone was selling yesterday, and I won an upgrade in Tower of Frozen Shadows: Shadow Corridors, which was great. I still really need to work on my faction so that I can buy some proper adornments, but I know that will come with time (and dedication of course).

Torrent Knights (the guild I run on Antonia Bayle) is also doing quite well. Last week we dinged level 55 which opened up two more amenity. We’re well on our way to 56, even with only a very small group in guild (there are 6 of us total). Tomorrow I’ll have 40k forgemaster faction, which means I can complete my prayer shawl and purchase the Thurgadin recipes for the rest of my crafters. I’m incredibly excited about this, even though I’ll have to hunt down other crafters to help me complete the portions that require help, but that’s alright.

I’m thinking of leveling up the swashbuckler as a weaponsmith, one of the three crafters I don’t currently have at 90 (I’m missing a sage and an armorer besides). I miss pristine bonus, but leveling up via rush orders is not that bad since it helps the guild out.

I hope everyone is having a fantastic weekend, no matter where you find yourself. Happy gaming!
